5 Reasons Why Your Aunt Is Your First Best Friend

"Only an aunt can give hugs like a mother, keep secrets like a sister, and share love like a friend."

1. She Has Been There From The Beginning

Ever since I can remember, my aunt has been by my side. When I look back on all of my major milestones, she has been apart of them. She always makes our successes hers as well and it makes me feel good, knowing that she will always be one of my biggest fans.

2. She Understands Me

I can honestly say that my aunt is the one that I can go to for anything. No matter what it is, I have no problem opening up to her. We have this trusting relationship, where I can open up about any issue without her judging me. I want to thank her for being that extra ear to listen to all my problems.

3. I Am Always Laughing With Her

A lot of people will never get our inside jokes or our personalities, but no matter what she always puts me in a good mood. For example, you can always pick her out of a crowd, whether that is sporting events or even a concert. She has a loud mouth and doesn't mind getting kicked out from time to time. No matter what, you will laugh once or twice while with her.

4. We Always Have Our Girl Time

Once or twice a month I can always look forward to going out to eat or getting our nails done and venting about whatever is going on at the time. It is a nice break from reality, where I can gossip and vent.

5. Most of all, She Is Like My Best Friend

Through it all, my aunt has given me guidance, discipline and most of all laughter. We have such a diverse relationship and this is why the above quote reigns true. She is not only my aunt, but my second mother, sister, and friend.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
