5 Reasons Why School Just Needs To Start Back Up Already

School isn't all bad, especially when you're living the dream college life.

School is not a year-round activity for many reasons, but do you ever wish you could just speed right through the summer and get back to classes again? College is interesting academically, fun socially, and just an overall engaging and challenging time in life. Frankly, I’m only a sophomore, but I am not looking forward to graduation at all. I want to be a college student forever (as of now). I definitely sense some disgust from others when I say things like this, so let me justify this claim for you. Here’s why I want school to just start back up already:

1. School is where I thrive

I don’t know much about others, but I do know that I am a very academic person. My brain seems to have been made for school. High school was never a challenge and even taking five courses is too easy for me in college. Though that may be the case, I know school is the environment in which I thrive. I do well in school. I managed to score sixth in the class when I graduated from high school and I made the dean’s list my entire first year of college. My GPA is somewhere between 3.8 and 4.0. I am unbelievably excited about that, but let me share a concern with you. What happens when I finish college? Do you know how terrifying it is to know that I found my talent and it’s something that has to stop before my life is even close to over? That’s scary and frustrating. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to be involved in right now. I want to be in the prime of my life forever. Who doesn’t?

2. Much better social life

Who here constantly sits isolated in your room at home alone, wishing you had friends that lived closer? All of the friends you make in college tend to live far from you or work too much to visit. The school year is a great time to connect with others and party it out like a real college student. It’s way easier to justify skipping class to get lit with a friend than calling out of work to drive an hour or two away to see your friend for coffee. School time is a great time to feel like you’re part of a group.

3. “Work, work, work, work, work….”

I imagine myself every summer singing Rhianna’s song on my way to work every single day. It’s exhausting to work all day. There are no gaps between the hours of work! You don’t have your own room to take a nap in when you’re not busy! Worst of all, pay is never too great when you’re a college student trying to earn a degree, and typically college students work at awful jobs on their breaks.

4. Great classes.

Contrary to popular belief, there are some pretty awesome, rewarding classes out there. There are really good professors that teach you a ton, whether you wanted to take the class or not. I guarantee you that everyone who’s graduated has taken a handful of classes that they actually enjoyed and didn’t mind working for. Classes that hold and peek your interest make college worth all the money it costs in the end.

5. Getting away from the family and becoming independent.

Life is all about growth. College is a great way to learn how to become independent. It matures you, teaches you how to think, to be logical, to form a good argument, to speak confidently, and makes you more valuable as a person altogether. With every lecture, you sit through, with every assignment you complete, and with every student/faculty member you meet. You grow into a better and more knowledgeable human being and that is super important, so stay in school, kids.

So, having given my reasons, let school start again! Hurry up, fall! And thanks for reading my article everyone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
