Usually, college students are anxious to get back to school towards the end of summer. I, however, am not. College is a lot different when you commute to a university that is half an hour from the house you grew up in and you live at home with your parents.
Here are five reasons why I am not looking forward to school this fall.
1. Most of my friends go back to school far away.
I transferred from living on campus where I had friends to living off of campus at a different university where, over the past few semesters, I have mostly taken online classes. This does not really give you any opportunities to make new friends. I do, however, enjoy going to visit my friends at their schools on the weekends. Sometimes I just feel like I'm not getting the full "college experience."
2. I do not know what I want to major in.
I am 21 years old and I still have no idea what I want to major in. Yes, I know I am still young. No, I will not stop worrying about it. I am a worrier, that is what I do.
3. Winter.
Although I do not mind winter in the beginning, it does get old after a while. Before you know it, it will be December and then you have three to five months of cold weather. There are some good things that come with winter though, for example, winter break, holidays and snow days. After February, though, it gets a bit old.
4. Buying books.
Why are they so expensive? Do not take free text books for granted, high schoolers. Pro tip: If you can find them, it is much cheaper to rent them from Amazon. There are also many more websites you can use, such as Chegg.com.
5. Stress.
When school begins, life automatically becomes more stressful. Especially in college. With finances, academic expectations, your social life and many more different things, it can be hard to handle it all. Everyone has different things to deal with during the school year and you do not know what they are going through, so try to give everyone a break. Also, everything is harder when you don't like coffee.
There are plenty of things I do look forward to when summer is getting closer to an end and school is right around the corner. I am not saying I hate school or I am not grateful for my education, but sometimes it can all be a little much.
With it being the beginning of August, I hope you all enjoy your last bit of summer and have a great school year!
