Marco Rubio may not be the most popular presidential candidate, but he really stands out. I think it takes a lot to run for president. Being president is one of the most stressful jobs there is; and while we complain about whoever is president no matter who he/she is, what we put into the corner is that there isn't gonna be a perfect one. Ever. They are going to make mistakes and no one is going to agree with everything they do. Rubio, however, wins my favor with some of his accomplishments and views that are:
1. His faith.
On January 27th, 2016 in Iowa, Marco was asked if he would follow God's word in decision making. He responded with "Yes, I try every day in everything I do." His humbleness shows in this statement. He also explained his longing to share "eternity with my creator." In order to be a good leader, one must learn from the ultimate leader, God. Marco Rubio states "I do think it’s important for our president to be someone who is influenced by their faith, especially if it’s Christianity, because it is a faith that teaches you to care for the less fortunate, to seek peace, to care for one another, even to love your enemy," to reporters. As a Christian, this is the type of man I want governing our country. (quotes from The Washington Post)
2. His views on abortion.
Rubio is anti-abortion. He believes that human life begins at conception and that the right to live is one of the fundamental rights given to us by our Creator.
3. He believes that people commit crimes, not guns.
When asked about the Second Amendment after the shooting of two journalists in August, Rubio responds with: "What law in the world could have prevented him from killing them, whether it was a gun or a knife or a bomb?" -per the Boston Globe.
4. Healthcare reform.
There is no doubt that the healthcare system in America is flawed. Healthcare is exactly this: caring for people. Everyone should have access to healthcare if needed, but with the cost of everything in the health field, I do not believe that it should be free no matter who you are. I understand that not everyone can afford insurance and I do think that reasonable, low-cost insurance programs for low and middle class people are needed. Not charging middle class people a ridiculous amount of money and low class people getting free healthcare. You get what you work for. Marco Rubio does not agree with a big-government approach to healthcare. According to WMTV in Madison, WI he wants to use "modern, consumer created reforms that lower costs, embrace innovation in health-care and actually increase choices and improve quality of care." This is one of the best approaches I have seen on the topic of healthcare.
5. Education reform.
Schools in America are in critical need of this. The Indiana Public Media says that Rubio states "We do need curriculum reform and it should happen in the state and local level. That's where education policy belongs." He's right. Education reform needs to happen at the state and local level, because needs are more likely to be met this way.
