5 Reasons Why I Hate Instagram

Social media is everyone's favorite thing. Everyone has a favorite social media platform and let's be real, we honestly spend all of our time on social media. If you say you don't, you're lying to yourself. From quite a few people my age, I've heard that Instagram is their favorite social media platform. I, for one, am not a fan. I mean, yes I have an Instagram but I don't care about it at all if we're being honest. You can see by the amount that I don't post and the followers that I don't have AND by the effort, I don't put into my account that I am not really invested. Here are the five reasons why I hate Instagram.

1. Everyone is a photographer.

Or at least everyone suddenly THINKS they're a photographer. Just because you took a picture of the sunset with your smartphone camera added a filter and added some contrast doesn't make you a photographer, sorry not sorry. I hate to break it to y'all -- you aren't going to win any awards for your Instagram photos. You have to have real talent to be a real photographer.

2. Stories.

Everyone and their cousin knows that Instagram stole the stories idea from Snapchat and any social media platform that can't even be original will NEVER be a favorite of mine. I have not, to this day, watched or created an Instagram story because it's just a rip-off and if I want to know what's happening, I'll watch your Snapchat story. I actually probably won't watch your Snapchat story either because I don't really care that much.

3. So. Many. Selfies.

I 100% support people having self-confidence! I'm all for that, I swear! But, if you're posting at least one selfie a day, I do not have the time or the patience for you. It's annoying, even if I like you AND your face, I don't want to look at anyone on my screen that often, not even myself. As I said before, that is literally the most annoying thing about Instagram for me. Pictures of you during your practice for whatever sport doesn't make you any cooler and doesn't make you look any more athletic, whoops. And I promise your pictures at the beach do NOT make me wish I was there.

4. Posting too often.

You don't have to post on Instagram 3 or 4 times per day. I doubt your life of going to school, the gym and drinking kale smoothies is really that interesting. You haven't drastically changed since your first post at 10 a.m., so why do you feel the need to update us? Please don't be that person. It's obnoxious.

5. No words.

I know Instagram is all about photos but honestly, that may be why I dislike it so much! I'm a journalism major so I clearly have a love for words and how they fit together. And no, crafting a catchy caption for your Instagram post does not make you a poet nor does it make you a journalist. In fact, there aren't enough words Instagram for me. I'm not a visual learner and I never really have been so that may be why it is so hard for me to like Instagram and take it seriously. And when there are words, they're not intelligent ones so... what's the point?

The moral of the story is that I hate Instagram. I'd delete it but I do have some things I'm proud of on there; not very many, though. Also, I don't wanna be the weirdo who doesn't have one so instead I have one and rarely use it, as if that's any better. I suggest that everyone just has a Twitter where there are actual words AND you can post pictures and videos. A win-win in social media. But I'm not biased or anything...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
