5 Reasons Why Campus Tours Make Current Students Feel Awkward

It is finally spring semester! Meaning time for pool parties, tanning, and campus tours…. While prospective students utilize campus tours in order to see our beautiful campus and get information about the school, current students role their eyes feeling like animals in an exhibit. People on tours fail to realize they're intruding on our everyday lives and in unwanted situations. Here is why campus tours are awkward and annoying to current students.

1. Everyone stares at you.

Yes, I go to this school, and yes I'm currently walking to class …but that doesn't mean if I walk by all 40 people on a tour they can stare or point at me (weirdly enough I've been pointed at). I'm sorry, but I'm just a student, not a celebrity.

2. The overly peppy tour guide.

It's currently 8 a.m. on a Monday and I just rolled out of bed, do you really have to be so peppy and obnoxious. We all know that we have the nicest rec in the country and our basketball team is awesome, but really 8 a.m.?

3. THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM!

I don't know about everyone else, but I give myself the perfect amount of time to leave for class and when I get stuck behind a mob of high schoolers and their parents on a tour I'm going to be late. The huge groups that take up every inch of walking space down Highland makes my walk to class a whole lot harder.

4. You see them at inconvenient times.

Whether you're working out, leaving the gym all sweaty, walking out of your bathroom after showering or eating in the Student Union, a tour almost always comes around at the most awkward and inconvenient times.

At the rec ... “And on our left you will see a student who has been deeply affected by the freshmen fifteen and now sucks at exercising."

In the union ... “Here is a student scarfing down 8 slices of pizza because it is a meal plan and she can."

In your dorm ...“And here is one of the hall residents heading to the bathroom after waking up."

5. They take so many pictures.

If you're on campus in the spring it is likely you will see parents and their kids with their bookstore bags in hand taking pictures all across campus. In front of Old Main, a dorm, a cactus, or anywhere on the mall. They're always taking pictures, and it's likely they'll ask you to take a picture for them.

Yes, this is Arizona; that is a cactus …. PLEASE feel free to take a million pictures in front of it.

Campus tours are the equivalent to annoying tourists, there are too many of them and they obnoxiously intervene in your daily life. I get that campus tours are important for the school and the kids, and I definitely went on my fair share of tours, but as a current student they make you feel awkward. I'm not a gorilla in an exhibit at the zoo, so please don't treat me like one.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
