If you’re anything like me, you find yourself pining for a different decade. Whether this means listening to 60’s music, rocking bell bottoms, or watching Breakfast at Tiffany's a hundred times is totally up to the person. I myself gravitate towards the late 20’s up to the late 50’s. I love watching classic movies and wearing high waisted shorts. James Dean and Elvis Presley are my Brad Pitt and Justin Bieber. This article is dedicated to all the other old souls out there, digging the vintage vibes! Here are 5 reasons why being an old soul is the best:

1. Our music taste is killer for a retro themed party.

Are you thinking about throwing a party dedicated to the roarin’ 20’s or the 80’s? We already have control of the aux cord and have plugged it into our record player... We got you.

2. You probably won’t see a lot of your outfits on someone else.

Although it isn’t bad to see someone else working a top you are wearing, it’s cool to have to have a unique style. Not a lot of people have the guts to strut to class in bell-bottomed jeans and a cropped Nirvana t-shirt...own it!

3. It’s a great conversation starter.

If someone sees a stack of vinyl on your desk or asks about your cat eyed sunglasses...it’s a perfect way to make conversation. A friend of a friend was visiting and he asked me about my jukebox sitting on top of my desk. I told him more about it and we ended up talking about how we both loved Elvis! To this day we remain close.

4. You will be hip with the old-timers (trust me on this).

During my high school graduation party, my uncle (who was in charge of the music for the event) had asked me what kind of music I wanted to play at my party. I was telling him I loved The Eagles, The Beatles, and Elvis when a friend of my aunt’s tapped me on the shoulder. She had overheard me talking about my music taste, and wanted to talk more about the Beatles (totally cool with me!). Before I knew it all the older people at my party had gathered and were doting on me for my music taste. I found that they were a joy to talk to and they said the same about me!

5. You’ll have a leg up in history class.

Being an old soul doesn’t just mean you love record players, old movies, and chokers. It also means you are interested in decades of rich history. I happen to be a huge fan of the 20’s. During this unit in my history class, I already recognized so many of the key people we were studying and found myself eager to go back home and watch some documentaries on them.

Even if you aren’t an old soul, I hope you took something out of this article! Should you decide to watch a movie this week, I highly recommend Rebel Without A Cause. It may or not feature a hunky heartthrob...(cough, cough, James Dean). Looking for some new threads? Try some funky bell-bottoms from your local thrift store!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
