Michelle Wolf remarks on many topics, from driving men away with "nonsense" texts to why she doesn't want to "have it all" to the reason everybody wears clothes. Most notably known as a writer/contributor to "The Daily Show With Trevor Noah", Wolf shines bright in A Nice Lady, her debut HBO stand-up special. Funny at all the right times and able to laugh at her own jokes, here are 5 reasons you need to check out her special.
1. Her feminist attitude.
Immediately, Wolf starts out the special by stating that she is a feminist, but not a "buy my own drinks feminist". As she declares, "I want equal pay and a chardonnay...well then just the chardonnay". She uses her platform to talk about how feminist are fighting for too many issues right now, such as feminists who "want to be in charge of stuff and get paid the same" and then other feminist who want to "free the nipple on Instagram". Behind her ragging on the latter feminists, is a funny yet eye opening examination into a modern day theme of inequality women can feel all too well.
2. Her take on Hilary Clinton.
Following her feminist ideals, Wolf states how she would have voted for Hilary, but that doesn't mean she likes her. But she goes on to say how "you're not supposed to like Hilary" because she's a bitch. Playing on the name of her special, she expands on how there will never be a nice lady who runs for president because nice ladies are not in charge of things. Any girl who has been in a position of leadership can feel this stance truly hit home.
3. Her voice.
There is nothing better than a comedian who knows how to make fun of themselves. Yes, she says she knows her voice is shrill. No, she did not "want to take the voice that causes dogs to gather outside". Shrill or not, her ability to poke fun at herself and use her voice to make some jokes truly laugh-out-loud is a stand-out part of this stand-up special.
4. Her social commentary.
At one point, Wolf starts to remark
At one point, Wolf starts to remark how there needs to be "a test or two" if a person wants to have a baby. Something simple, she says, like "lemme see your iPhone screen...Oh, it's cracked, then no!" We would all be lying if we were to say this isn't something that we've all thought, some people just are not fit to have children. Michelle Wolf just has the good decency to connect that inadequacy to a cracked iPhone screen.
5. Her. Shoes.
