After the release of the fourth season of the widely successful Netflix series "House of Cards," I figured it would be a good thing for me to convince those who haven’t started watching it to do so.
Here are five reasons to watch "House of Cards."
1. Lots of deception.
This show is packed to the brim with unexpected twists and turns in the plot. Schemes arise, and surprise not only the characters in the show, but the audience as well, leaving us captivated and unsure if we’re with or against these characters.
2. Incredible writing.
With an incredible writing team, "House of Cards" takes lots of risks. From killing off important characters, to setting up twisted and dark scenarios and breaking the fourth wall, everything is done in a very artistic and unobtrusive way.
3. Incredible supporting cast members.
The casting in this show is unreal. Every actor has such a unique role in the development of the plot, and you grow connected to each of them in a different twisted and sick way.
4. Interest in politics.
Regardless of how exaggerated, dramatic or fictitious it is, this show creates an interest in American politics for its viewers. I think as a nation, we fail to educate younger generations on the importance of politics. This show, at least for me, has sparked a desire to become more invested in our nation's politics.
5. The Underwoods.
Drawing from other political power couples like the Clintons, the Kennedys and the Roosevelts, the Underwoods are our eyes into the dark side of politics. They encompass every characteristic a protagonist and an antagonist would possess. They care about the well being of the nation. They’re sensitive to others, yet they'll crush people. They’re selfish, ambitious and hardworking. They do whatever it takes. Also, Kevin Spacey is just phenomenal in this role.
I can’t say much more without running into spoilers. So all I can say is watch the show. Just do it.
