Your grandma is someone you hope to be like in almost every way when you’re older. She has been there to basically raise you when your parents didn’t feel like handling you and she was the one to teach you so many of the life lessons about yourself and the world around you that your cherish so deeply. If you really think about all of the sacrifices, long days slaving away in the kitchen, and incredible gifts she’s given you, you’ll probably also think about how much we all suck at thanking your grandmother when in reality, she deserves the most thanks of almost anyone in your life. Here’s why:
1. For creating your kick-ass mother or father.
A girl’s parents are arguably the two most important people in your life and the two people you can always count on who are forced to love you no matter what. Your grandmother raised your mother or father to be the kind, hardworking, selfless human being you know and for that you can never thank her enough. Thank you grandma.
2. For feeding you the most ridiculously bomb meals.
One required task on the list of grandmother’s talents in her ability to kick ass in the kitchen. She is responsible for those Sunday dinners that leave you and the rest of your family in a food coma with a permanent food baby until you wake up Monday morning and immediately regret the eight meatballs you forced down your own throat the night before. She is known for her cooking but you know that her ability in the kitchen just scratches the surface of her talent and capability. With her, there is no concept of over-eating and she definitely will not judge you for your food choices- actually, she’ll most likely being the one encouraging you to eat your body weight in home-cooked meals every time you make the trudge to her house. Thank you grandma.
3. For always giving you timeless advice.
I know we can all remember a time when whatever it was that we were going through was too much to talk about with your dad because he will always tell you it’s your own fault and too much to talk about with your mom because she asks too many questions; who was the one you could turn to? Grandma. Whether it takes a literal drive to her house just to talk to her about a boy or just the inevitable advice she gives on all holidays and gatherings that, believe it or not, happens to be useful at some time later on in life. Thank you grandma.
4. For sticking up for you on every occasion that your entire family decides to gang up on you.
Your grandma knows everything about you. The good, the bad and the ugly. And though most of the time your family spends grilling you about life choices or semester grades, your grandma wants to join right in, she doesn’t. She’s the only one with the authority to shut down the rest of your family when they try to gang up on you or make fun of you. She has saved you hours and hours of debauchery over the dinner table. Thank you grandma.
5. For making so many sacrifices so your parents, and in turn your whole family, can have the life that she never did.

We all seem to forget the absolute importance of the sacrifices that both of our grandparents made for our parents in order to send them to school and provide them with food on the table and a roof over their heads. It was their hard work and selflessness that laid the foundation for the incredibly lucky life that your parents lived and were able to draw upon when building a life for their own family. Thank you grandma.
