Let's be real - you hate the holidays. It's okay, most people do. There is just so much work that goes into everything. You have to clean the house and slave away cooking the ham and the turkey, then you have to get all dressed up to impress the parents and grandparents. It really just seems to be a hassle most days. But despite all they trouble, they do bring us some good. So with having just passed Easter, here are five glorious things to love about the beloved holiday!
1. Family
I know that seeing the grandparents, the in-laws, and weird uncle Bob can seem like a drag, but when you really get down to it, it's a good thing. Some of those relatives, your aunts and uncles and cousins, you only get to see a couple times a year. So cherish those moments when you are with them, they'll go fast.
2. SPRING!
The warmth is coming. If you live in the North, then you know that Easter means spring! It's right around the corner! The flowers are starting to bloom, the sun is coming out, and we are finally getting some warm weather! So break out those shorts and get ready for some lovely spring weather!
3. Children, Laughter, and Joy
Even though your children or nieces or nephews may not quite be old enough to understand what the Easter season is really about, they can still have fun! Easter egg hunts, candy baskets, egg tosses. There are plenty of fun things to do to make your children have the most memorable Easter. I remember always having Easter egg hunts at my grandma's house when I was a kid. Lucky for me, I'm the second youngest kid in the family, so I always got a head start!
4. FOOD
As with pretty much any holiday or big event, there is food involved. Holidays are usually the only time of the year where it is actually acceptable to gorge yourself with food. So eat, eat, eat! Bring on that Easter ham (or whatever it is that you and your family likes to enjoy), cause I'm ready to eat!!
5. Forgiveness
Okay, it's time to get serious for a minute. While there are many wonderful things about this holiday, such as the food, the people, the games, the candy, the beloved Easter Bunny; let's not forget the true meaning of Easter. Jesus Christ. Our Lord sacrificed his life for us. He died on the cross so that we could be forgive of all the sins we commit. Please don't forget the this true meaning of Easter during your celebrations!
With each holiday that passes, it is easy to get caught up in the stress of planning and forget the 'Reason for the Season." I challenge you to take a step back this next holiday and remember why your family is gathering, rather than how you're going to have to tolerate a house full of family members. It's time to start cherishing time together instead of dreading it.
