There is just something about Greek life- everyone either loves to love it or loves to hate it. So many people avoid going through the recruitment process because they feel like the will be judged for it or they feel like they have to join an organization. Let me give you a few reasons going through recruitment should be on your college to do list.

1. Friendship

You will hear over and over again "oh you are just paying for your friends," but the truth is I made friends before bid day. I pay dues for my own sorority, so how is it that I am also paying for my friends that are in other sororities? Say you get through rush week and you decide not to accept a bid you still have all of the friendships you formed standing in the five million degree weather outside of every single house.

2. Community Service

Shockingly enough being a sorority is not just about date parties and formals. When you join a sorority you are also joining an organization that supports something so much larger than itself. Need proof? Here is a list of the top five sororities in the nation and their philanthropy

1. Zeta Tau Alpha - Breast Cancer Education and Awareness (ZTA Foundation)

2. Kappa Alpha Theta - CASA for Children (Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation)

3. Chi Omega - Make A Wish

4. Delta Delta Delta - St. Jude

5. Pi Beta Phi - Read, Learn, Achieve

3. Acceptance

This is not just acceptance for you, but your acceptance of others. Going through recruitment I met so many girls who hated the idea of Greek Life, but recruitment gave them the chance to see that Greek Life is more than what the movies make it out to be. Now, let's be selfish.. you will never feel more loved in college than you will going through recruitment. People will be genuinely interested in who you are and the things that make you happy. They will accept you for you and if they don't- they aren't your house.

4. Support System

If you choose to join greek life you have a constant support system even after college. Every where you go you will find people who were a part of your organization and they will always be there to love you and support you.

5. Leadership/Job Opportunities

You know how people say you pay for your friends, not really but you do have so many opportunities readily available to you. Think of it this way- you walk into an interview and they look at your resume and see that you were president of Sigma Apple Pi and no way the CEO of that company was a Sigma Apple Pi so odds are you will get that job just because of that one connection. When you are thinking about college recruitment is just one huge week of interviews and there are so many organizations in college that you have to interview for. This week of interviews prepares you for all the rest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
