Hitting the snooze button is the best and worst invention of all time. Nearly every morning I find myself pressing snooze at least twice before making an attempt to leave my heavenly bed. It always seems like a great idea to my groggy head to wait just five more minutes, but too often I end up sleeping an extra hour and wasting away my day.
In high school hitting snooze was not really an option, whether I wanted to get out of bed or not my parents were always there to be sure I would. In college, I have the option to either start my day and be productive or stay in bed watching Netflix. There is nobody telling you to get up, and the consequences are all on you. Below I have compiled a list of reasons that should be motivation to get off your lazy butt and start your day.
1. Working out
The thought of going all the way to the gym sounds torturous, but try thinking further ahead. In Three months you will totally thank yourself for making the effort to break a sweat every day rather than laying in bed eating junk food.
2. Get ahead
I know for me procrastination is my biggest weakness. By waking up early and getting your day started, you have time to get a kick start on that essay due next week rather than pulling an all-nighter the night before it's due.
3. Feel more awake
I always hate going to class right after I rolled out of bed. Even though it's easy to throw on a hat and sunglasses, taking the time to get ready makes a huge difference. Not only will you feel more confident walking around campus, when you feel good you are more successful.
4. You deserve to treat yourself
When I accomplish my list of things to do, I don't feel as guilty when I decide to get my nails done or spend an extra hour watching Netflix. It's only fair to give yourself some me time, for getting out of bed and making an effort to better yourself.
5. Preparing for the future
Ten years from now you will have real adult responsibilities like going to work or taking care of your kids, and laying in bed just isn't an option. So taking the time now to get your life in order, will prepare you for the future and make you motivated.
Of course sleeping in some days is relaxing but when it becomes a habit, you're just doing yourself an injustice. So stop hitting snooze and start your day!
