Although the first time I went to Seattle it was begrudgingly, I immediately fell in love. Everything about it is fantastic. I love people watching, and Seattle is one of the best places to do so. On top of that, they have a perfect climate and plenty to do for fun. I was given a trip to Seattle for my 16th birthday, and it was definitely one of the best presents I've ever had. Don't take my word at face value though, continue reading to find out just why Seattle is the best city.
1. The moderate climate
Maybe this is because I've lived in Michigan my whole life, but I have a very strong dislike for the cold and snow. Sure, it looks pretty from inside when it's falling, but that's the only good thing about it. Seattle averages only 6.8 inches of snow a year while Detroit averages 42.5. This fact alone is enough to convince me that Seattle is where I belong. However, if you need some more convincing, the average low temp for January in Detroit is a bone-chilling 19 degrees Fahrenheit while in Seattle, the average low temp for January is 37. Talk about a huge difference.
2. The breathtaking views
My mom took this picture on our first trip to Seattle from the top of the Space Needle. It's Mt. Rainier, located only 54 miles from Seattle. This is just one of the beautiful sights to see in Seattle. There's the lovely cityscape also seen in this picture, the Pacific ocean which can be seen at Puget Sound, and more.
3. Pike Place
Pike place is a public market that overlooks Elliott Bay. There are many places to visit and see such as comic book shops, antique stores, street performers, collectible shops, fresh fruit stands, etc. A popular stop is the Pike Place Fish Market, where employees literally hurl three foot salmon through the air to each other. It's quite entertaining. Pike Place is also home to Rachel the Piggy bank, a literal 550 pound piggy bank that collects $6,000-$9,000 annually. Legend has it if you rub her snout before making a donation, you'll have good luck!
4. The Market Theater Gum Wall
Seattle is home to some of the coolest tourist attractions. Pictured above is the Market Theater Gum Wall. It's located in an alley in downtown Seattle, right under Pike Place. It's just what it looks and sounds like - a wall covered in chewing gum. Disgusting, yet totally cool.
5. The Space Needle

As you can see, Seattle is a pretty fantastic place. I love everything about it and can't wait to make a visit there again as soon as possible.
