21 Signs You Grew Up In Seattle

Everyone knows Seattle is the best city in the country. Every year, the Emerald City has about 19 million visitors who come to enjoy the city's music history, ocean views, and fresh-brewed coffee. But, did you know people actually grew up in this magical place? Here's a list of signs you were born and raised in Seattle.

1. You've drank in Seattle public parks.

2. You went away to college, and were confused that you couldn't see the water and a mountain from your apartment.

3. You know useless information about the state of Washington, like the state bird, flower, rock, etc., thanks to fourth-grade state history. (Eastern Goldfinch, pink rhododendron, petrified wood)

4. You understand rain doesn't mean you can't go outside and have fun.

5. Coffee stained the walls of your band instrument because you started drinking coffee as a child.

6. You love bringing college friends home with you so you can have an excuse to go up in the Space Needle. Oh, wait, it's $13? Screw that, you'll just take them to the Starbucks on the 40th floor of the Columbia Tower.

7. You loathe Californians because your parents told you what happened because of them in the '90s.

8. You don't understand that other cities don't have a lake you can swim in just a few miles from downtown.

9. When you get in fights with people from Portland (or most other cities, but especially Portland) about whose city is better, you always have the last word: "Does your city have a recognizable skyline?"

10. You know people who commute by boat.

11. Asian food is your comfort food.

12. When you meet Seattleites anywhere else in the country, you have an immediate and unique bond.

13. The word "no" is actually pronounced "yeah, that sounds fun."

14. You hate conflict. You're passive, and you know it's horrible, but you wouldn't want to voice an honest negative opinion because someone might think you're from the East Coast.

15. You know for a fact that Rainier is the best cheap beer out there. Not Coors, not Bud Light, not PBR, but Rainier. You've also been known to throw a few in your carry-on when you head back to college out of state.

16. You remember when Bumbershoot was actually cool, instead of being a stereotypical, overpriced music festival. It was instead $20 for a weekend pass, and had comedy, improv, and art galleries.

17. It's always a struggle deciding on a place to eat because there are too many amazing restaurants. Oddfellows, Paseo, Jade Garden, Musashi's - the list goes on and on. (Don't even get started on dessert.)

18. Screw umbrellas.

19. You probably had a high school dance in the Space Needle or EMP, and before you went, you took your pictures at Gasworks Park.

20. You get really frustrated when people say they're from Seattle when they're really from Bainbridge Island, Tacoma, Everett, the list goes on. But, it's always really satisfying when you get to rebut with, "Oh, I'm actually from Seattle. I grew up on Capitol Hill," and they give you that embarrassed look.

21. You will rep your hometown until the day you die because there is no place that beats Seattle.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
