5 Reasons You Should be an Odyssey Creator
whatsappstatusdaily
  1. Low commitment: Seriously
  2. Don’t get me wrong, there IS still “work” that must get done by a certain time and day; however, you only submit one article per week. Typically this would be between 500-800 words. That’s WAY shorter than any other writing assignment that you will receive in your classes…trust me, I have been there having taken two English college courses and lots of fun social science courses that require writing (those I don’t mind, though, ‘cause. . . Psychology).
  3. Experiences: Online and in person
  4. The want or need to get involved on campus can become overwhelming for many incoming students. Over the summer, there’s already students wanting to get involved on campus. Thankfully, Odyssey works year-round! Additionally, it introduces you to a wonderful team of caring and passionate individuals from different majors who are also looking to get involved but may have restrictions (e.g. time, commitments, and distance). Our editor-in-chief is already working on planning social events for our team to interact throughout the year, in person. What’s nice about this being an online platform is that, especially for those who find it a bit more difficult to engage in conversation in person instead of online, this provides a stepping stone for further interaction among similarly-minded students in your college/university.
  5. Skills: Transferable to your next career/job
  6. The skills you come to attain through this volunteer position will become essential in the future. You’ll notice that your writing is improving, your tech skills are becoming a lot better, and your social skills are receiving a good boost. These skills, plus many more, are what will be deemed as “transferable skills,” skills that can be transferred into other occupational settings in your future.
  7. Marketability: As We Continue Becoming a Technologically-Advanced Society
  8. Going along with the third point, a much needed skill in this day and age is the mastery of technology. As a wave of millennials continue to appear on the shores of various colleges across the globe, expertise in online media, online publishing, online communication, online advertising, and so forth (notice a common theme?) will make you more competitive in the future market.
  9. Freedom of Expression: Because we all need time to clear our mind
Lastly, and the main reason I got involved with my college’s Odyssey team, there is the freedom to voice your opinions, to express your thoughts, to discuss what others may deem “controversial” or “taboo.” You have free reign over what your one weekly article will be about! It can be about pretty much anything that comes to mind. You get to choose, and, with this, you get to express yourself—and don’t worry, you’ll be reminded to express yourself; specifically, once a week.

If that STILL doesn’t convince you, remember that you get a free share prize every week if your article gets the most shares.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
