In April of this year I made one of the most extreme, scary and rewarding decisions of my entire 19 years on this earth. I chose to pick up all of my stuff and move eight hours and 14 minutes away from the only place I've ever known. I moved to the Bay Area. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, which made it super exciting to move from one major tourist destination to another. These are some of the things that made me fall in love with the Bay Area and things you should definitely look for if you come up here.
1. Architecture
If you come up to the Bay Area, you will see some beautiful retro architecture. From churches to houses to even little coffee shops on the corner. Some of these buildings are so old and yet so strong, with the ability to survive earthquakes and whatever else nature decides to throw at it.
2. The acceptance of all people
We have such diverse people in this city. Up here, we (the majority of us anyway) accept everyone and are so excited to see how people are different from others. No matter your skin tone, sexual orientation, or gender, you will be treated like you're a person (as you should be because you are).
3. The small businesses
There is an abundance of small businesses here. It is beautiful to see the many dreams of people that come true by having their pride and joy put into a store/restaurant of their own.
4. The views
The photos speak for themselves. There is so much beauty on the peninsula that you almost feel as if you need to constantly be taking photos of all that's around you. With the ability to have a camera (cellphone) on us at all times, we are able to always have something to capture these beautiful moments with.
5. The art
There is so much art here, and a lot of it isn't on a canvas. From the Mission to Haight Ashbury, there is so much beautiful art to see and enjoy. Some of it is so meaningful that you can directly feel the pain, happiness, and any other emotion the artist is trying to convey.
The city of San Francisco is only approximately seven miles long by seven miles wide, and it is crazy how many things you can find in this city. Whether or not you have any immediate plans to visit the Bay Area, you should always keep it in mind because, trust me, there is no other city like this one.
