While it may come as a surprise to many people, especially those still in high school, I absolutely cannot wait for summer to be over. I never thought I would actually be anxious to return to school, but college has changed the way I look at summer entirely. There are many reasons for that, and these are just a few.
1. Friends.
Almost all of my friends live two hours away from me while we're all at home, and it sucks not being able to see them every day. When I'm at school, I spend almost all of my time with them, both in and out of classes, and it's so strange to be without them. Visiting every few weeks just isn't the same.
2. Classes.
I'm one of those weird people who actually really loves school and going to class. I've always been someone who loves learning and school, and I love it even more now that I'm taking classes that are in my area.
3. City Living.
What can I say? I live in a tiny little town, so I absolutely love being in a big city during the school year. There's so much more to do there, and I'm not used to having nowhere to go when I want a night out.
4. Freedom.
As much as I love my family, it can be stifling being at home. When I'm at school, I don't have to ask permission to go out with friends or even on my own. At home, however, I have to ask for things like that, even if just as a courtesy. While this isn't a problem in any way, it's still a reminder of how things are different from one place to another.
5. People.
I never meet new people at home because I know almost everyone I'm going to run into, and I won't have any reason to introduce myself to the ones I don't know. At school, I'm basically forced to meet new people all the time. If I join a club or have a class where I don't know anyone, I have to meet new people if I don't want to be lonely for the entirety.
While I love being home with my family and having a break from school, four months is entirely too long to be away from the place and the people I love. I'm ready to be back so that I can have everything that I'm missing while I'm home.
