5 Reasons Why You Need To Host Friendsgiving

Friendsgiving has, for me, developed into a holiday tradition that I will try to continue from here on out. Though I have only participated in this pre-Thanksgiving Grateful-thon (yeah) three times or so, I already feel that I am an expert. This is because of how easy it is to throw together! There is no reason not to partake in Friendsgiving this year, so I suggest you create a Facebook event, invite a random group of people (so much fun), and take the sweaters out of your oven because you're hosting this year. Here are five reasons why:

1. You need to put your kitchen to use

Come on my fellow dorm-dwellers, how often do you really use that oven of yours? It’s fun to get takeout when you’re sick of cereal, sure, but why don’t you make time this week to make a pie or an easy entrée for your friends? The dorm is going to smell amazing, too, which will provide a nice alternative to the faint, mold-like smell that has started to seep from your refrigerator…

2. You need a break from studying

Come on, it’s the week before Thanksgiving! Of course, you got things to do, assignments to complete! But haven’t you ever heard that you’re supposed to give your brain a break when it’s overwhelmed? Be a college student for once and neglect your responsibilities (just kidding… we do that all the time…) to host a killer dinner for you and your friends. Why? (see below)

3. You need to show your friends how thankful you are for them

Because you need to show your friends how thankful you are for them. Yes, yes, it’s cheesy and you could probably never say it to their faces without blushing hardcore and looking at the stained tile the whole time (you should probably mop that up before dinner, btw). But it’s true, there is a special holiday where we show our loved ones we care, so why not our friends? Pour some love into that box cake mix, yo.

4. You need to eat good food at a low cost

When you need sustenance, Friendsgiving is there to save the day. The more people you invite, the more food there will be! With this potluck-type party, you can eat a nice variety of foods at a small cost. Depending on how organized you want to make this, you can plan it so there’s a good proportion of desserts to appetizers to entrees, or just pizza to go around.

5. You need savor the little moments

Time to break out that Polaroid and snap away, my friend, because Friendsgiving is the memory you’ll always want to cherish. Years from now, you’ll think of those college parties and look on in fondness at the friends you made (and hopefully still have) and the fun you had together.

So you see? There’s no reason not to host Friendsgiving. No, don’t come up with an excuse, just get ‘er done.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
