I watched "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" for the first time since high school. (I watched it almost a million times in high school, though.) As I watched it, I felt like there is more to this story than simply girls who find magical pants. So I hope you can agree with this list:
1. "Everyone you meet is fighting their own battle, be kind always."
I have heard this quote as a way for people to spread awareness for depression, which we see Bridget struggle with during the movie. I always saw Bridget as being the one that you would never suspect as being depressed. This is why I always had a soft spot for Bridget, when she breaks down toward the end of the movie, I broke down. (And I mean, it's Blake Lively, she's perfect.)
2. "Taking chances are what life is all about."
When Lena, who is set up as being the quiet and shy character, does something out of character. She stops 'people-pleasing' and decides she wants to be with Kostas regardless of her family's protests. I admire this about her and am so excited that she takes this chance.
3. "Friends are the family you choose."
After Carmen screams at Tibby, it feels as though their friendship is crumbling. However, Tibby just knew Carmen needed some space. Tibby didn't yell back, she didn't say anything hurtful, she simply let Carmen yell and decided she couldn't help her. Later when Carmen comes to apologize, Tibby simply tells her she loves her and that's it. That's the kind of friend I want to be as well as have.
4. "Sometimes you need to break down to stand up."
OK, so I kind of made this one up, but it is totally true. We need to cry our eyes out in order to see clearly. This is what happens with Carmen when she confronts her dad on the phone. The entire time she is on the phone, Tibby is sitting at the table right behind Carmen, waiting to help her after the crying stopped. I always enjoy when characters have breakdowns because after you hit rock bottom, you can't go much further down.
5. "Don’t ever give up on the people who love you."
These girls love each other so much that they would travel the world for each other. Literally. How do you not feel strongly for those people? I know that if my friends dropped everything and came to my side when I needed them, I would do the same thing for them.
