As many of you know, this election season has been a whirlwind of emotions. With the results coming in this past week, it has left a lot of people feeling hopeless. Here are some self-care tips to get you through this difficult and trying time.
1. Drink tea.
Lavender and chamomile tea are great for nerves and anxiety. If you need something to help relax you and calm you down, try one of these.
2. Meditate
According to the Huffington Post, meditation reduces stress and increases happiness. If you've been feeling a little uneasy, it's best to be still for a minute. Meditation is great for taking some time to be completely silent and in the present.
3. Talk it out
Holding all of your frustrations and anger inside will not be beneficial to you in the long run. It's important to find someone to talk to and have conversations with. Usually when we talk to other people about our feelings, it can offer reassurance. Whether it's with a friend, parent, or therapist, talking things out can be extremely helpful.
4. Try not to overreact
Many people are imagining the worst case scenario with the new president-elect. Try not to overreact and get all worked up and anxious about something that hasn't even happened yet. We won't know what the next president will do until he does it. Getting upset over things that haven't occurred yet is a waste of time and energy.
5. Do better
If you didn't vote in this election for any reason, this should propel you to vote next time. If you're unhappy with the results, it's your job to ensure that something different happens in the future. When the next election rolls around, make sure you're fully educated on all the candidates and their policies (this includes the President as well as local officials). Remember that the power lies in the hands of the people!
