With a population of around 46,000, Huntingdon County Pennsylvania is NOT winning any awards. For people who have lived there the majority of their lives, they know that the town can have a sort of drowsy or stagnant feel to it. Having lived there for 10 years I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that when it was time for college, I was ready to leave. That being said, Huntingdon isn't ALL bad and there are a few places that just brighten up the town and make life there quite enjoyable. If you haven't already visited these locations, definitely have a look!
5. A Thousand Steps
A Thousand Steps is an amazing hiking experience that is pet friendly and will give you a serious work out. Located on the drive to Mount Union this is a pretty epic place to visit. Every 100 steps to the top of the mountain are labeled providing for plenty of selfie opportunities and the view at the top is definitely one of the most beautiful things Huntingdon County has to offer. There is also a pretty cool historical significance! If you haven't been here, put it on your bucket list because you are seriously missing out.
4. Thompson's Candle Company
While I might be a little biased because I am friends with the owner's son, Thompson's Candle Company is NOT something you want to skip. Their most popular scents are "Apple Dumpling" and "Butter Rum," but they offer tons of other yummy smells for anyone who pops their head in. If you don't have time to pop in at the moment, simply stick your head out the window as you pass and let the delicious scents of melting candles grace your noses. It's worth it, I promise. (I can't think of one time I've passed by and HAVEN'T stuck my head out the window).
3. Spoiled Rott'n Pets & Their People
All of my friends will tell you that I spoil my dogs. Like it's bad. I go out of my way to make sure my dogs are not only comfortable, but living the good life. This also includes what I feed them. Spoiled Rott'n Pets is a personal family favorite. Located at 373 Fairgrounds road, they carry all natural pet treats and foods that are made here in the United States. One of the really cool things they do is to team up with local vets to assist in special dieting for pets. That being said, they also carry foods for dogs with special needs. If you're just looking for a quick clean and trim, located next door is a dog groomer with 8+ years experience.
2. Memories Sports Bar & Grill
Memories will always hold a special place in my heart. My family would always go to Memories to celebrate special occasions. Located about a block from The Coffee Shop, Memories is home to anyone looking for a good meal, a friendly atmosphere and lots of sports on TV. The staff are all really sweet, it's a 10 minute walk from the college, and did I say the food was really good? Because it is.
1. Sweethearts Confectionery
Listen guys. I'm going to let you in on a secret. This place. This right here is where you need to go. Like, yesterday. The owner is super sweet and makes a mean cupcake. She bakes about 3-6 new flavors a day so you can go in one day to a S'more's cupcakes, and the next have Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup or Pineapple Upside Down. As Fall is coming around, flavors like Pumpkin and Snickerdoodle will be very popular, but even if you aren't a cupcake person, her shop has so much to offer. She has tons of different types of candy and treats to choose from. (Chocolate Pretzels all the way to Nostalgia Candy). You can also special order your cupcakes if you need a certain flavor or quantity. If you haven't been here, go. now. Like right now.
I promise you, it's so good, you shouldn't even finish my
