If you are a student at Widener then you are probably very familiar with the layout of the campus, but if you are new to Widener you might not know of all the different rooms you have access to. If you are a resident you can always go back to your room when you have a break between classes, but maybe you don’t want to deal with your roommate (or simply don’t want to bother them if you are with friends), and if you are a commuter you don’t have the luxury of going to your own space unless if you want to travel all the way home. So, I have complied a list of some places on campus that have their own perks of hiding out at.
1. Library Drost Room
This is also known as the commuter lounge. It’s on the second floor of the library right in front of the stair case. It has the typical things you need: chairs, tables, a microwave, and vending machines that probably work. This is the only place you are allowed to eat in the library, so a lot of commuters take their lunch breaks there. It’s usually pretty quiet so it’s also easy to get work done in there.
2. Library Green Room
If you want more privacy, there is also the Green room. On the second floor, past where the bathrooms are there is a small room with two desks for computers, some comfortable chairs, and bookshelves with poetry books. It’s easy to find this room empty, so it’s a good place to go if you don’t want to be distracted, or want to hang with friends.
3. UC Quiet Lounge
In the lower level of the UC there is the Quiet Lounge. It’s the same room with the access to the chapel. This room is filled of couches, and like the name suggests, is supposed to remain at a quiet volume. I’ve mostly seen people take naps in this room – I’ve taken a nap in that room. This room is usually pretty empty, so you can either get work done, take a nap, or chat at a low volume.
4. Pride Den
The Pride Den is across from the Quiet Lounge, has chairs, tables, ping pong tables, and has access to the dance studio. There’s no volume limit on this room and the commuter club often hosts events in this room with free food. It’s a good place to hang out at.
5. UC 2nd Floor Piano
If you have ever walked into the UC you have probably heard someone play piano. In the upper level of the UC, right by the multicultural lounge, there is a piano that anyone can play. I suppose this is only useful if you know how to play piano, but even so, nothing is stopping you from sitting down and plopping a few notes.
This is a pretty good example of little hide away places at Widener. Of course, there are vast opportunities of places to hide out at, but these ones offer pretty good resources.
