Philly has opened my eyes up to so many new beautiful places. It's hidden beauties is what makes it one of the best city's to live in. Most don't think of Philly as a great place, but that's because they've never fully experienced all it has to offer. Whether you're looking to post a good instagram or just bored on a Saturday afternoon, here are 5 awesome places in Philly you need check out.
Philadelphia Museum of Art
Sure, you may think of it as just a boring art museum, but it's so much more than that. In case you didn't know, the Phila Museum of Art is actually the site of the famous Rocky steps. Not only was it showcased in a movie, but the museum itself is so inspiring and beautiful. The massive building houses over 227,000 different creations from all over the world. (Bonus! If you're a Tyler School of Art student at Temple University you get in for free!)
Reading Terminal Market
Calling all food junkies, this is your place! Reading Terminal market is home to the biggest variety of food you will ever see. From your classic Philly cheese steaks to some good ol' Amish country dishes to the best grilled cheese you'll ever taste to Japanese cuisines so savory you'll go back for seconds.
Love Letter Murals
This one's for anyone who loves a good Insta. An artist decided to paint murals on the sides of old buildings that collectively express a love letter between a boy and a girl. There's a total of 50 rooftop murals that can be seen from the elevated train platform of the Market-Frankford line.
Independence Hall
Um, hello, if you're in Philly you should definitely make a stop to see where the country became one. America and its government was basically created in Philly. You may think it sounds boring, but Independence Hall actually has some hidden gems. Its cobblestone streets and horse drawn carriages bring you back in time as you stroll around the building and its lovely little parks. The liberty bell is also in the same location, right next to a large field where photo ops are easily accessible.
Schuylkill River
(Shoutout to Kenneth Finkel for being obsessed with the Schuylkill and alwaystalking about it in his class) As much as I loved hearing my professor talk about his obsession with Philly and the Schuylkill, I never truly understood his passion for it until I saw it myself. The Schuylkill is a rover and a roadway, home to many joggers, bikers, yoga enthusiasts, and all around great vibes. Sounds totally cliche, but seriously, this place is super relaxing and a great get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
