5 Perks Of Going To A School Close To Home

When deciding where I wanted to go to college, location was a key deal-breaker. I knew I didn’t want to be more than three hours away from my home, so I only applied and looked at schools within that radius of my house. While my dad pushed me to apply to just one school across the country, I couldn’t do it -- the distance scared me too much. After all was said and done, I ended up two hours away from my house at Villanova, and I couldn’t be happier with the distance. I’m far enough away where my parents aren’t popping in my dorm ever weekend, but definitely close enough where going home isn’t a hassle. Here are five perks of going to a school close to home.

1. You can go home when you’re sick.

Let’s be real, nothing is better than getting a home cooked meal and your mother’s love when you’re sick. And instead of camping out in the health center, you can sleep in the comfort of your own bed for the weekend.

2. Your family can visit when you’re homesick.

Because you don’t need to fly to get to school, your family can easily visit you and brighten up a bad day. Knowing your favorite people are just a short car-ride away definitely make the transition to college easier.

3. You can make easy travel plans for breaks.

Instead of trying to figure out train schedules or plane fares, you can easily tell your parents what day and time you need to get picked up for a break. Additionally, you can tell them two days before instead of having to worry about travel plans weeks in advance.

4. You can spend all holidays with your family.

Some breaks like for Thanksgiving and Easter are really short, only giving you a few days to get home and celebrate with family. Lucky for you, the short drive home doesn’t cause a hassle or isn’t a big waste of time, so you can spend all holidays and even birthdays with family, and even bring some of your friends from school home with you, too!

5. You can pack as much as you want.

Living so close to home means you don’t have to rent a storage unit for your stuff over summer. You can put everything right in your car and not have to worry. This is also key because you can take things like shampoo and shaving cream from your house instead of spending your own money to buy it at school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
