Every single summer, I hear myself and my friends saying the same thing: "This is going to be the best summer yet!" However, the same thing seems to always end up happening; lying around in bed watching movies and sleeping until noon. Occasionally, we will make the not-too-far-away drive to an amusement park or a concert. To fix your boring old summer habits, here are five perfect (semi-affordable) places to visit this summer to make it unforgettable.
1. Charleston, South Carolina
Now, I may be a tad biased since this is my favorite place on earth, but I promise you'll fall in love with this town. Spend a few nights in a hotel or rent an old Charleston townhouse, then spend your days shopping downtown or visiting the various beaches and islands. You'll see horses on the cobblestone streets and get caught up talking to the locals. Did I mention it was named the third friendliest city in the world?
2. Bar Harbor, Maine
Maine is filled with breathtaking views and lots of outdoor activities. Spend a few days exploring Acadia National Park! Hike through the mountains until you reach the top to look over the stunning view of the ocean. Even sit back on the docks and watch the boats come in and back out to sea while watching the sunset.
3. Lewes, Delaware
This little town doesn't get enough recognition. Located right at the edge of the sea, this place couldn't get any quainter. Book a stay at one of their cozy bed and breakfasts, then spend a few days relaxing at the beach or taking a stroll through the towns, museums and local shops.
4. Athens, Georgia
If you decide to take a trip down to Athens, you will never run out of things to do. With various restaurants, stores and sports bars, you'll want to never sleep. Their southern food will have you asking for seconds and it has one of the most legendary record shops right downtown!
5. Cape May, New Jersey
This coastal town has a charm that'll leave you wanting to come back soon. The Victorian style homes painted from blues to pinks catch your eye every time. Visit the beach or take a stroll through the streets to see which charismatic shops and cafes pull you in.
