The reality is, working your first big kid job is not as glorious as you might have thought. The first time sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day probably isn't your first choice of summer activities. While you reminisce on the summers where you had less responsibility and a better tan don't forget to appreciate the small positive perks about your job.
1. Free coffee
Those 3 cups of free coffee you drink every day at the office is a huge perk. Think about how much money you are saving by not having to indulge in overpriced Starbucks to keep you awake.
2. Free food
It's always a good day if your company holds breakfast or lunch meetings. I never know how much a free bagel can change the beginning of my day. Employers must have figured out the way to get to their employees' heart is in fact through their stomach.3. Lunch break
Ok, I know it seems like I'm talking about food a lot here, but lunch break is the best part of the work day. It gives you a chance to step away from your desk and socialize with co workers. It also serves as a great midpoint of the day and helps motivate you to keep working hard for the second part of the day.4. Learning
Learning new things is one of the most important parts of your first job. Not only is it necessary, but it's also fun. You feel very accomplished when you master a new skill or do great on a project you were assigned. It makes you feel more confident in your abilities as well as shows others that you are capable of learning and growing.
5. Applying things your learned in school
It is great to be physically doing things you learned in class. It makes all those hours studying so much more tolerable knowing that it is important information. Using knowledge and skills you learned in class makes you feel smart and qualified.
