5 Ohio State Block Essentials

It's that time of year again... Get ready.

5 Ohio State Block Essentials

It's football season here at The Ohio State University and you know what that means... Block. But no Block is complete without these five essentials, so make sure you're ready before game day. And remember, GO BUCKS!

1. Red Lipstick

The true sign of any OSU football fan. Red lipstick can turn any outfit into an OSU themed outfit and only shows that you're a true buckeye fan if you double up the spirit. Chances are, the lipstick will rub off throughout the day and end up somewhere between the each can you drink out of. It's important to avoid looking like a clown with you're smeared lipstick, so keep it with you for a quick touch up.

2. Your phone

Every Block is guaranteed to be filled with unforgettable moments. Whether it be a frat boy jumping off a building or your friend shotgunning their first beer, you have to be ready for it all. These are the times that you will form some of your most valuable friendships and you want to document your best friend's shining moments. Not to mention, you have to post the obligatory Block pic on Instagram.

It's also not very hard to lose your friends in the masses of people, so you want to make sure that you share your location with your friends so that you know that they are safe and vice versa. Make sure that you know where your friends are at all times.

3. Cash

Yet another Block essential comes in the shape of a 20 dollar bill. You never know what game day will hold for you, but it's pretty much guaranteed that you will need to eat at some point. Even if you don't, you may end up at the bars buying a round for the girls. If you bring your debit card along, you run the risk of losing it, which is a problem that no one wants to handle on game day. So keep cash on you, but not too much, just enough to get McDonald's and the drink of your choice.

4. Dirty Converse

Rest in Peace all shoes worn to block. It does not matter how hard you try to keep them clean, or how many times to clean them throughout football season, they will always end up ruined. Your shoes are guaranteed to get covered in beer, mud, and just about everything else throughout the course of the season. Do not waste your money. Do not bother buying new shoes because you think they will be cute because they are red or white. Break out your pair that you've had since middle school (if they still fit) and call it a day.

5. Fanny Pack

Fanny packs are not just for your parents. Crazy things happen at block, put all of your essentials in your fanny pack and secure it around your waist. This is the only way that you will survive block without losing anything important. You will thank me for this later.

**Optional** 6. Frat Boy

Oh, the frat boys. As soon as you and your friends roll up to Block, the frat boys are on the hunt. Once they find one they like, they make it very clear. There are a million ways this scenario can go, but my personal favorite primarily includes free drinks and sneaking out of the bar immediately after with my friends. Obviously you make your own decisions, but proceed with caution!

With that being said, have a safe block season and enjoy every moment. Go Bucks!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
