Football season is a month away, and for all of us that have boyfriends that live and breathe for this sport, we have grown accustomed to their traditions. From their mammoth screech before the game starts, to their yummy buffet of food that appears on the coffee table in their living room, even for us girls that aren't that into sports somehow really get into sports.
Waking up at 6am for College Gameday
As the early bird that I am, I live for these Saturday mornings. For those who don't know, Gameday is a morning program on ESPN every Saturday, where they go to different colleges before the game starts, and highlight plays, make jokes, and play a whole lot of wacky games. You can see the students in the back, getting their pre-game on and just coming together as a community to celebrate and root on their team.
It's actually hilarious, so if y'all don't watch it, you should!
Gameday food prep before kickoff
GiphyI can promise you that you haven't lived until you eat gameday food. The barbecues...the 7-layer dip...the cupcakes decorated to flaunt your team...YUM.
My boyfriend always barbecues burgers for gameday, and if that alone doesn't get you loving the football season, I have no idea what will.
Tailgating (or for those with water surrounding their stadium, sailgating)
GiphyLiving in Washington, we are blessed (sometimes) with being surrounded by water. With that being said, UW does this amazingly awesome thing before gameday: sailgating.
Yep, it's tailgating, but on a boat. How awesome is that?! In Washington before the UW games, fans go on their boats, sit on the shores of Lake Washington, and eat and drink their hearts out.
Anyways, a tradition that most people have is tailgating, where they pregame around other cars, with food and goodies (beer, beer, and more beer!) before the game. It's super fun, and a great way to connect with others cheering on the same team!
If you're watching from your couch, get ready for "The Screech"
I had mixed feelings on this one, but it slowly (I mean slower than a sloth) grew on me. "The Screech" is when football fans do a screech-ing noise and scream out their teams name, followed by a small dance. My boyfriend (bless his soul) does this every damn time the Seahawks kickoff. He even had the audacity to video record himself doing The Screech, and posting it on social media, where other fans cheer him on and Screech themselves.
You can imagine I have a love/hate relationship with this one.
The Superbowl Party (or college rival games)
The big daddy of all big daddy's. Everyone, hardcore fans and people who do not even know the sport, come together and watch this game. Not just for the game, but for the food, the alcohol, the people, and the commercials/halftime show.
Superbowl Sunday should be a holiday, because it is celebrated all around the country as one. My boyfriend and I always go to Superbowl parties, and let me tell you, I wouldn't miss it for the world!
