Whatever your experience with 2016 may be , the new year is finally here. During this time, people tend to reflect on the past year, and often realize what they want to change about it. Although the majority of New Year's resolutions are often short lived, these few simple changes are absolutely attainable. This is due to the fact that they are pretty generic and that they adhere to the constant change that this year is inevitably going to bring. As we enter 2017, here are 5 simple resolutions that anyone can follow.

1. Read More

Whether you are a total bookworm, or haven't picked up a book in the last decade, this isn't a difficult resolution. This could be achieved by reading at least one more book than you read in 2016. Thus, this could mean reading 30 books this year or at least one.

2. Listen More

Listening is an excellent way to strengthen your bonds in 2017. This could mean anything from listening more to your parents, friends, significant other, or even yourself. Listening ultimately opens up the world around, providing you with an understanding of the people who care about you.

3. Save More

With me included, it is often a habit for people to place their funds directly into their checking account. In fact, according to Forbes.com, 63% of Americans cannot afford to cover a $500 dollar or more emergency. In order to prevent this, begin by creating a budget for yourself based on all of your incomes. Afterwards, start putting 10% of each paycheck into a savings account. This should eliminate a handful of impulse spending and allow you to live within your means.

4. Go Outside More

Nature is beautiful, and more often than not, we spend most of our day indoors. Between school, work and errands, the indoors have primarily become our home. In order to break this habit, you can start by doing everyday things outside, such as, eating lunch, or doing home or school work. The fresh air will open up your mind and allow you to feel happier and healthier.

5. Use Your Smartphone Less

Even for those who don't own a smartphone, today technology is in the lives of many. The easiest way to achieve the majority of these resolutions, is to cut back on phone usage. It will allow you to make more time for reading, listening, going outside and it can ultimately save you money.

No matter what your resolution is, I hope that everyone has a wonderful New Year's! No matter how good, bad, or ugly your 2016 was, even though there is no telling what 2017 will bring, staying positive is the best way to bring in the new year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
