Sadly, summer is coming to an end very soon.
You're probably scrambling as you try to figure out the best ways to spend your last couple weeks of summer. But relax my friend! I have the perfect solution for you.
But seriously, you've most likely been aimlessly clicking through Netflix all summer trying to find the right show to dive into. I got you. Here are five awesome shows on Netflix that you can get emotionally invested in before the summer comes to a close.
1. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Now, this show is absolutely hilarious. You may have scrolled past this show to watch the re-watch the 3rd season of Orange is the New Black the tenth time, but I swear OITNB isn't the only awesome thing to come out of Netflix. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt seems as it was set up for greatness. It stars former The Office actress Ellie Kemper and was created Tina Fey (otherwise known as the OG Goddess of Saturday Night Live). The humor of the show hit for me virtually every single time. The characters are quite lovable from the jump and you start to care for them quite quickly. Also, the show's short enough for you to finish it before the summer over. So, hop to it man. You won't regret it.
2. Bates Motel
If any of y'all are horror fiends like me, you're gonna love this Psycho prequel. This show deals with Norman Bates as a teenager, dealing with the usual teenage problems: girls, good grades, and murderous tendencies. Typical.
(Super cute, I know.
Freddie Highmore (whom you may remember from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) has grown up into a fine actor who portrays teenage Norman Bates beautifully and creepily all at the same time. It's absolutely worth the watch.
3. Bob's Burgers
It never ceases to amaze me how many people don't know what Bob's Burgers is when I tell them about it. But, I promise you, this show is incredible. The comedy is just so ridiculous at times it's genius. But I personally don't think that it goes into the realm of being offensive, like Family Guy. Every character is great. Every episode is great. It's just great. Whenever you need a laugh, Bob's Burgers is the way to go.
4. Freaks and Geeks
Everything Judd Apatow touches turns to comedic gold. And, this show doesn't disappoint. This is one of the best teen shows to ever grace a television set. The fact that is got canceled after a season of being on the air is just insane. I'll never understand how a show this legendary could have such a short run. It showcases a more relatable side to high school, that most shows love to sugarcoat and overdramatize. Also, it showcases the beginnings of the incredible comedic relationship that is James Franco and Seth Rogan. You can't get any better than that.
5. American Horror Story
This series is special my friends. The reason that it's special is because every single season is a complete story. So, this series is perfect for short-term binge watching. You can watch as little, or as much as you can handle without losing any part of the story. To me, every season is stellar and completely worth the emotional investment. (But the first and third seasons, are completely must watch.) I'd rather not tell you anything about the story, because American Horror Story is something that you should dust dive into and experience by yourself. So, have fun.
Now, you've got enough shows to fill up your time with quite nicely! You'll be watching the thermostat go down and leaves fall from the trees in no time.
Happy Binge Watching!
