If you do not have a lot of time, short films are a great cinematic platform that is often under- utilized by consumers. Yet, they make an exciting and equally as intriguing film as a feature length. They are great mediums to tackle social issues creatively, and as an outlet for creative means. Here are a few that may spark your interest:

1. "I’m Here" by Spike Jonze

Premiering at Sundance in 2010, this film depicts a world where humans and robots coexist. It follows the life of a robot named Sheldon, and his lover Francesca. I’m Here approaches romance, segregation and sacrifice, with a new lens through the audiences' empathy with two uncommon characters.

2. "Stutter" by Benjamin Cleary

A man with a speech impediment comes to terms with his vocalization issues, when he contemplates meeting the individual behind his online relationship. This short film has won an academy award, Irish Film & Television Academy award, and a whole list of others. It has also been shown worldwide, and is an intriguing short that tackles a new angle on online relationships.

3. "Billy Boys" by Fraser Rigg

This VIMEO Staff Pick, showcases the reality of 3D printed firearms. It illustrates how technology has changed the industry of weaponry, and the downfalls of such.

4. "Stop" by Reinaldo Marcus Green

Premiering at Sundance in 2015, this film highlights the issue of racial profiling in America, as a young boy is stopped during one of the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk searches. This, however, is juxtaposed by the film's ambiguous ending.

5. "Day One" by Henry Hughes

Winning a Narrative Gold Medal at the 42nd Student Academy Awards ceremony, and an Oscar nomination, this film highlights the turmoils of war and the imbalance of two cultures colliding. Day One was inspired by a true story, and depicts the journey of an Afghan- American woman, on her first day accompanying the American army unit. As they look for a terrorist in Afghanistan, she tries to fulfill her roles as a translator and contemplates the humanity at stake.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
