In honor of "Fuller House" coming out last Friday, let’s take some time to remember how fantastic the original "Full House" was. Growing up on "Full House" provided me with endless laughs, memorable catchphrases, & many life lessons. Even now I’ll get my little cousins to say, “You got it dude!” or “How rude!” just so I can relive my "Full House" glory days.
1. A little sass never hurt anybody
We all know when it comes to sass nobody does it like the Tanner girls. The thing with their sass is that it was never mean-spirited, never intending to do anything but bring a smile or a laugh. Whether it’s a witty back and forth between Stephanie & Kimmy, or a classic one-liner from Michelle, they were always funny without ever being mean. It’s okay to be clear about what you want and a little sass never hurt anybody.
2. Honesty/ Genuineness
In those classic Danny Tanner lectures, "Full House" taught the importance of being honest and real with people. The value of the truth is something Danny Tanner was always trying to teach the girls. The characters on this show were examples of genuine real people with struggles who were trying to live their best lives and have fun along the way. Especially during the middle school years all the Tanner girls learned their lesson about being yourself. They showed the social pressure of friends and the desire to want to be a grown up, but also that being yourself makes you happier and that there is no rush to growing up.
3. Loyalty & Family
There is nothing these characters wouldn’t do for each other. From the very beginning of the show, Uncle Jesse & Uncle Joey moved in to help Danny raise the girls. This theme is carried through the rest of the show. They’re a drop everything at anytime for anybody kind of a family; they remind me of my family in that way, maybe that’s why I love them so much. Probably one of the most endearing scenes is in the episode where Aunt Becky & Uncle Jesse move out after they get married and he has to say goodbye to Michelle. This scene brings me to tears every single time.
4. Body Image Positivity
Thank goodness for Aunt Becky. She became the woman figure the three girls needed especially through DJ’s teenage years. Aunt Becky was there through countless conversations about makeup, boys, & body image in a way Danny, Uncle Jesse, & Uncle Joey couldn’t be. Through these conversations came a theme of love yourself as you are. This lessons applied when the show was on air and now when we get to watch the reruns. It hits home every time. DJ has all those struggles every teenage girl has, and the audience watches her struggle but ultimate move through it all with support from her family.
5. Life Positivity
If nothing else, "Full House" is a lighthearted and positive show. At the end of day, they worked everything out and always ended on a happy note. It’s almost impossible to watch this show and end being sad. Even in my worst moods, it always makes me smile and warms my heart. The power of positive thinking and remembering it’s not a bad life just a bad day.
Thank you "Full House" for the laughs and lessons.
