The transition from summer vacation to the beginning of a new school year never seems to get easier, even though I've done it so many times now. It's always hard trading in beach days for long nights in the library and watching Netflix for reading textbooks. The new school year is right around the corner, especially for college students. Although I'm now a sophomore in college and I moved in early take on my role as an orientation leader, it has still been a pretty tough transition back to school since I'm away from my family and in a whole new dorm. It's hard saying goodbye to friends and family and getting ready to tackle a whole new year. I'm definitely very excited, but at the same time, I'm nervous about everything the year will entail. I think that everyone could use some inspiration every once and a while, especially during a big transition such as starting a new school year. Here are 5 of my favorite quotes that will hopefully help you start your new school year.
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone" - Neale Donald Walsch
I think that this quote is particularly useful for incoming college freshmen or transfer students. Starting your freshman year of college is definitely difficult, especially if you're going away from home. However, as this quote says, life truly starts when we put ourselves outside of our comfort zones. I was really homesick during the first few weeks of freshman year as well as throughout some others points in the year, but the experiences I gained during the year made it all worth it. I became less and less homesick as I pushed myself to step outside of my comfort zone and talk to new people and join some clubs and activities. I started to learn what kind of person I want to be. It was tough to get myself to step out of my comfort zone because I was homesick and anxious, but ironically, coming out of my comfort zone made me feel more comfortable in the long run.
"Trust yourself you know more than you think you do" - Dr. Spock
At the beginning of every new school year, everyone has doubts about a variety of things such as academics or social life. It is so important to keep this quote in mind. I sometimes tend to second guess myself and convince myself that I'm making the wrong decision in a given situation. However, this school year, I want to try to keep my doubts to a minimum.
"One day at a time" - Eleanor H. Porter
I'm definitely the type of person who gets easily anxious and overwhelmed about a lot of different things. I sometimes overthink things and think about every situation that could happen, usually all the negative ones. I plan ahead too far and lose sight of the present. Although it is difficult, I think it is so incredibly important to take each day as it comes. Enjoy the highs of the day and deal with the lows, without worrying about all the future problems or situations that could arise.
"You're off to great places. Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!" - Dr. Seuss
I think that this quote by Dr. Seuss serves as a reminder of what education is all about. We need it to learn more, achieve more and serve others more. It also encourages us to stay positive and seize the day. Classes can be very difficult sometimes, but we must keep a positive attitude and take on whatever challenges are thrown at us.
"Realize how good you really are" - Og Mandino
It's so easy to become sad as the summer ends and afraid of what new experiences school might bring. However, I believe that this quote tells us to remember how wonderful each of us is as a whole person. I think that we have to feel good about ourselves in order to feel good in a situation, especially a tough one. The transition back to school is much easier if you are energized from the summer and getting ready to bring all you have to a new school year.
I hope you all have a great upcoming school year. Best of luck!
