I'm back on the writing grind, and it's time to discuss a topic that a good majority of us like to talk about: money. Let's be honest everyone, you can't survive without it, it's responsible for some, maybe all of our happiness, and most importantly, it's just nice to have money. Most of us love to find that job right after college, myself included, but what about a secondary income? It's one of those things that is rarely talked about, but it really should be talked about a lot more. Why? The more channels of income you have, the safer you'll be just in case you get laid off. As of right now, I have four different channels of income, Odyssey being included in that list, so what are the different types of secondary income that aren't the typical part-time jobs? I'm glad you asked! Here are five different options to consider, keep in mind, there is plenty more to think of.
1. Freelance Writing.
Of course, the most obvious one on this list is freelance writing, because this is what I am exactly doing right now. Yes, I do get paid to this, and it sort of puts bread on the table, but doing this full-time will in no way keep me afloat financially. However, for side money, The Odyssey is perfect in this case because every dollar can be used for something. Keep in mind, freelancing is not just writing. You can do web design, data entry, consulting, photography, or any other service you have experience in, you just have to market your service out to the world!
2. Uber/Lyft Driver.
A very popular option in this decade for a second income is becoming an Uber or Lyft driver. The amount of money you earn doing this depends on your city. It is estimated you could make at most $40,000 a year full-time, but it's not likely you will ever reach that number. This is probably the quickest way to make cash, but keep in mind, you have to be 21, your car has to have 4 doors, and your car has to be less than 10 years old.
3. Transcriptionist.
Pretty much you're transcribing audio into text, and the need for this position is pretty abundant for any company. Medical transcriptionists make more than any other -- this job is very time-consuming, but the payout could be a nice second paycheck.
4. Call Center/Virtual Assistant.
You're online for a website or on the phone with random clients helping them with whatever problems they need diagnosed. This is my least favorite on this list, but if you're really good with people, try it out. Amazon always hires virtual assistants, and they do get paid a decent salary.
5. Social Media Evaluator.
Appen is the most known for this, but the job is in its title, and you get paid a pretty good wage for being on the internet all day. Just make sure you have a really fast connection.
Whatever job you choose as a second income, you are ahead of the game because most people will never consider a second income to begin with!
