Most of the time over spring break, you get to hear and go to all the amazing warm places in the world. Unless you are like me and you're lucky if you go one hour away from home for spring break. So since I am now home for a week where I have absolutely nothing on my plate, I have to think of stuff to do. Because I am not able to afford a nice warm vacation, I have to make do with what is in my hometown. Hopefully if you are in the same situation as I am, these ideas can help.
1. Catch Up with Hometown Friends
Luckily for me, there is a college in my hometown. And a lot of people I know from high school go there. You also may have friends that stayed back home and didn't go to college. Catching up with those friends you haven't talked to in a while is so great. You've been away from each other for so long that there are endless things to talk about. The conversation will keep going and you can probably spend an entire day talking to them. It's an easy and fairly affordable way to fill up a day.
2. Do the Tourist Thing
Now this one is inspired by my friend Sarah. She for spring break is going to California with her boyfriend, where he is from. And they're going to do all the tourist downtown things. Which her boyfriend have never done before because he lived their his entire life. We all have those places in our hometowns that the tourists go to when they come to visit. In my town it's either the old factory that was converted into shops or if it's summer, go to the ice cream stand that makes their own ice cream. So go see that tourist spot that you've never thought to go to because it has been their your entire life. You'll probably enjoy it and see why other people love it too.
3. Take a Restaurant "Tour"
This one is probably going to be the most expensive one. It also may take the most time of any of these either. But who doesn't love good food? And I can bet your town has some amazing restaurants to go sample. So if you have some extra cash on you this spring break go visit all the restaurants in your town. Your stomach will thank you, trust me.
4. Yeah, Go Watch that Movie
Now this is the real stay at home option of the five I'm presenting here today. I would suggest for this one that you get yourself comfy. Grab your favorite blanket, have your comfiest clothes on, and maybe get a beverage or two. Settle in to finally watch those movies that are in your "My List" on Netflix. Or if your more of a DVD kind of person you can watch movies that way as well. It could be an old favorite your watching. Or that new movie that just came out to watch that you have just been dying to see. It's also just after Oscar season, so you can catch up on those too.
5. Do Your Work
I know, I know this one isn't the best. But it's the one you actually need to do. Everyone has at least a little bit of homework over spring break, no matter what major you are. Personally I have a very long history research paper to write. But hopefully you aren't in my position and just have a little bit of homework. Getting it done right away takes off that pressure of having it linger over your head. Then you can enjoy your break without worrying the entire time, "Wait, do I have something due when I get back?" Because the answer to that question is probably yes. Get it done and enjoy your break. You deserve it.
