Even only a few months into the year, 2016 has already given the world plenty of great music. Hip-hop especially has seen several impressive debut and follow-up projects with more to follow. To help fill your calendars, I've compiled a list of a few upcoming mixtapes and albums under my radar:
1. Domo Genesis - "Genesis"
With several strong mixtapes already under his belt, Domo Genesis is set to release his debut album, "Genesis." Earlier this week, the Odd Future member unveiled the project's first single, "Dapper," featuring recent Aftermath signee, Anderson .Paak. The smooth duo has undoubtedly set high hopes for the full album, due March 25.
2. Khary - "intern aquarium"
I first discovered Khary this past January when he performed alongside Masego. After running through his discography, Khary has quickly become one of my favorite artists in the industry. The Rhode Island native is currently finishing his mixtape, "intern aquarium," scheduled for release later this spring. Tune in to the latest single, "Find Me."
3. Tommy Genesis - "World Vision 2"
Atlanta-based collective Awful Records shows no sign of slowing down in 2016. Awful's Tommy Genesis commands each track with her seductive verses and is gearing up to release her sophomore album, "World Vision 2." In the meantime, Tommy is holding us down with her newest track, "Art." Stream the single below, and catch her on Father's upcoming tour later this month.
4. Tunji Ige - "Missed Calls"
Tunji Ige takes the do-it-yourself model to the next level. After gaining the attention of music heads worldwide with his debut mixtape, "The Love Project," Tunji has only continued to grow as an artist. After many festivals and touring with the Neighbourhood, Tunji announced that his next project, "Missed Calls," will drop Apr. 1. Catch the latest single, "War."
5. Real J. Wallace & Dayfade - "Aloe Vera"
Over two years in the making, San Diego's Real J. Wallace and Dayfade are nearly ready to unveil their collaborative album, "Aloe Vera." The local rapper/producer duo recently dropped this smooth track, "H.O.E." Although the song didn't make the cut for the album, it stands as a solid preview of the smooth vibes we can expect from the sonic powerhouse.
