Ahh, yes. Amy Schumer. Not only is she considerably the most hilarious woman in Hollywood today, but she'll take entertainment to places where few women have the guts to go. She's hysterically ballsy, authentic and well-deserving of our attention. Here are five situations that will make you appreciate Amy Schumer.
1. She intentionally tripped in front of Kim and Kanye during the Emmy's red carpet.
Are you kidding me? Who does this? And who better could she have tripped in front of for our entertainment? Not only was this stunt epically ballsy, but her response impressed us as well. During a post-award interview at the Emmy's, a reporter questioned Schumer about her decision to lunge in front of the two. Describing what motivated the stunt, Schumer responded,
"Seeing these two people who are, you know, media moguls in their prime, in their moment and wanting to do something to remind everyone that we're all human and that no one is more special than anyone else."
Not only was this moment astonishingly funny, but also wise and with surprisingly great intentions.
2. She pranked Katie Couric by texting Katie's new husband for sexual requests without her knowing.
This story may be one of the funniest celebrity moments that I have ever heard. Katie Couric and Schumer sat next to each other at a dinner party for the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Couric left the table for a couple of minutes, and unfortunately (for her) left her phone unlocked on text messages between herself and her new husband. Schumer impulsively (as described by herself) decided to text Couric's husband, requesting that they try something sexually adventurous that night. When Schumer returned to the table, she told Schumer that, for some odd reason, her husband suddenly wanted to leave the party. In the interview, Schumer said,
"Katie comes back like 90 seconds later and her and her husband are like, 'So... we're leaving. Like, I don't know why he wants to leave.'"
As I said before, are you kidding me?! Who does this?! Amy. Because she is awesome. You can get the full story from her Jimmy Fallon interview here. I highly suggest watching this video because it is shockingly hilarious.
3. She entertains her sister by harassing Bradley Cooper.
Amy admits that Cooper is ridiculously charismatic and out of her league in an interview on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." But, that doesn't mean she won't muster up some entertainment from their interactions. Whenever Cooper passes her, Schumer admittedly shouts his name to make her sister laugh. "Whenever I see him, I always harass him," yelling, "Bradley!" But, one time, Cooper decided to have an actual conversation with her. She told Fallon about the conversation in which she apologized to Cooper,
"And then [after apologizing] I tried to get out of there because I get very uncomfortable talking to somebody that handsome [...] So anyway I'm talking to Bradley and he's really charismatic and he stares in your eyes and asks you questions, which like no man does ya know? [...] So I left the conversation, and I was kinda like, 'Am I dating Bradley Cooper?' I was like 'Amy Cooper?' So I go home and I like change my status update on Facebook to like in a relationship."
She obviously has no limits to entertainment, another reason we should appreciate her.
4. Instead of Tinder, Schumer uses "Food Spotting."
During an interview on "Ellen," Schumer was asked if she's been dating recently. She said she's most definitely not online dating, unless you can count her use of the app called "Foodspotting." Amy, describing the app, explains,
"They let you know about food in your area. So, like, this week in L.A., I was eyeing this one particular scone," [as she smirks to the audience]. "So I went to the scone, and I kind of just sidled up to it, and I was like, "Oh, my God, you look just like your picture," [the audience burst into laughter]. "So I'm kind of dating. Kind of dating."
So, if you need reliability, just know that food on this app will not disappoint you like your Tinder matches will. Thanks for the tip, Amy.
5. She made a comedic parody about rape on college campuses.
An estimated 20 percent of girls will be raped every year on a college campus. Woah... really? Really. This is an issue that Amy addressed in one of her comedic parodies on her show. When asked about being a "feminist," Amy responded,
If I'm preaching for women's equality, then sign me up. That's so crazy that people don't identify as feminist.
Well said. Her parody showed a football team who's coach decided to ban rape, which some of the football players opposed. This brilliant and comedic twist to this issue expands the borders of understanding to a comedic audience with the intentions of preventing future sexual assault. Well done, Amy. And thanks for the honesty.
