Unless y'all haven't touched a social media website this week, you're probably aware the Hotline Bling video came out on Monday. It was colorful, fun, and featured a side of Drake that just can't stop dancing. I, for one, loved it. Especially Drake's little cha-cha.
Now if that's not cute, then I don't know what is.
But, the best part about the release of Hotline Bling is the various covers that've been popping up all over the web. Here are the best covers by some people you've heard of and some you should probably check out.
So, In no particular order:
1. Disclosure and Sam Smith
Sam Smith is already amazing. His voice is buttery smooth and absolutely intoxicating. He adds a ton of depth to Hotline Bling. The original beat is almost not worthy for Sam Smith's vocals. But, Disclosure's beat adds something special and progressive to the original's.
2. Alessia Cara
If you haven't heard of Alessia Cara, you should take the time to do a quick Google search. She did the dopest introvert-at-a-college-party anthem, Here. So, of course naturally I dig it cause that's totally me. Her Hotline Bling cover is stripped down like an acoustic cover. It's lovely.
3. Keyshia Cole
Keyshia Cole's cover is quite interesting, seeing as it's the female perspective. It becomes relatable when you listen closely to the lyrics. And, of course, Keyshia Cole can really sing. It's always enjoyable.
4. Charlie Puth & Kehlani
WOW. This cover is amazing. Charlie Puth & Kehlani are both unique, and they have some powerful voices. They work together flawlessly, especially with this minimalistic beat and tempo changes. Everyone should listen to this; especially you. GO. Now.
5. Erykah Badu
Although this list is in no particular order, I did the best for last. Erykah Badu is one of my idols; she's the dopest person ever. So, when I heard that she did a Hotline Bling cover it surprised me. Now that I've heard it a couple thousand times, I can tell y'all that it works perfectly. 10 out of 10, I would highly recommend.
