Moving into college for the first time is such an incredible and insanely different experience than anything you’ve ever had before. Not only are you living on your own for the first time, but you also could be sharing a room for the first time, and moving somewhere that you don’t know a single person, other than what they share online. It so crazy, weird, and just almost indescribable to people who haven't been through it. But, here are five feelings that us freshman, or upperclassmen, can all relate to when we move in.
1.) Anxiety.
Waking up the morning of move in is such a stressful time so it’s hard not to be anxious. You don’t really know what to expect and honestly anything you can think of is probably wrong anyway. Also, once you finally get to your room, looking at everything you need to unpack, and figuring out exactly how to unpack it can lead to some anxiety.
2.) Sadness.
Let’s all be real here, saying goodbye to your parents actually sucks. Like there is a small twinge of sadness in everyone when you hug your parents goodbye, even if you know that you’ll be visiting in a few weeks.
3.) Excitement.
Moving in to college is such an awesome experience. You get to make new friends, start a whole new adventure, and ultimately remake yourself into whoever you want to be. What’s not to be excited about?
4.) Confusion.
What is all of this orientation stuff? Where is the building we’re supposed to meet at? How am I supposed to remember my key all the time? There are so many questions that form on the first day and it’s super confusing but thats okay because it is for everyone else too.
5.) Exhaustion.
After getting up super early to drive to school, move in, and deal with orientation, the end of the night seems like it’s never going to come. Hopefully sleeping better will happen further into college.
