When you think of a grilled cheese, what comes to mind? Two pieces of bread with a simple piece of bread? Not for me. A simple grilled cheese is too easy. Here lately, my family and I have been experimenting with different kinds of grilled cheeses. So here are some ideas for when you’re craving one next.

  1. Classic grilled cheese with a twist. For this, put extra butter on your bread before you throw it on the pan. It’s make your sandwich greasier, but taste that much sweeter.
  2. Grilled cheese with pickles. Before buttering your bread turn on the burner and get some hamburger pickles (small sliced dill pickles). To ensure that your pan doesn’t become soaked with pickle juice, you have to pat the pickles dry with a paper towel. This one is also made pretty normally except you put the bread and the cheese on then put as many slices on the sandwich as desired.
  3. Grilled cheese with hot dog slices/lunchmeat. This is still one of the simple ones, and doesn’t require much extra time. Between your slice of cheese and second piece of bread lay either small hot dog slices or pieces of lunch meat in the sandwich. This was one of my favorites when I was little! The best type are the hot dogs with cheese in them too!
  4. “Pizza” grilled cheese. This one is super awesome! We make it with our homemade tomato bread, but normal white bread will do too. This one is made with cheddar cheese, spoonful of marinara, and pepperoni slices. Be careful not to squish this sandwich with your spatula as this is push out the little bit of marinara sauce.
  5. Jalapeno grilled cheese. Caution! Those who can’t handle heat shouldn’t attempt to consume. You take slices of jalapeno, Which I’m sure you can find unseeded for those that can’t quite handle the heat, and put them on the sandwich, like we did the dill pickles (you should pat them dry before putting them on the sandwich). You could use any kind of cheese for this one. They all taste delicious!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
