A vibrantly forested land nestled in the heart of the Midwest, Missouri is a state most eloquently defined by its rich scenic landscapes, and colorful historic background. Although this underappreciated location is generally not synonymous with lively adventure, there exist a great number of entertaining, captivating, and awe-inspiring destinations within Missouri’s borders. It is a state you've probably never considered visiting, but a trip you will most certainly never forget.

1. St. Louis

Home to one of the nation’s most iconic structures, St. Louis provides an enticing atmosphere that is large enough to provide the pleasures of big city exploration, yet small enough to present a comforting, hometown vibe. Let curiosity ensue as you marvel at numerous 1904 World’s Fair focal points, including the Saint Louis Zoo and Art Museum. Not only are these attractions uniquely enticing, but also free to all visitors.

2. The Fugitive Beach

With a trip to the nearest shore requiring a lengthy 12 hour drive, Missourians had to improvise. This popular spring break destination was created on the site of an abandoned quarry, and is characterized by its vibrantly blue waters, sand beaches, and daring diving cliffs.

3. Branson

A popular destination for a weekend getaway, this family-oriented town provides ample opportunities for wholesome entertainment. Visitors can take a trip to the Landing for a unique shopping experience, visit Silver Dollar City and experience the wonders of the 1880’s, or escape the city atmosphere with a hike through the Ozark Mountains.

4. Klondike Park

Engross yourself in Missouri’s diverse natural world with a trip to Klondike Park. Known predominantly for its lookout bluff giving view to the river valley, an increasingly popular Instagram backdrop, this alluring location also features rustic cabins, a charming white sand encircled pond, and numerous scenic hiking trails.

5. Elephant Rock State Park

Perhaps one of the most unique locations in the Midwest is this state park situated in Belleview, Missouri. Characterized by its massive boulders, Elephant Rock State Park is perfect for a scenic hike, an adventurous climb, or a charming picnic. The park also offers a trail designed especially for the handicapped and the visually impaired, making this beautiful region enjoyable to people of all types.
