There are a lot of things that college students miss about home while we’re away at school, but our moms top the list. To go from seeing her everyday to only getting to spend time with her for a short time every three months can be sometimes, no matter how old and independent we've become. These are the 5 things college students miss most about our moms.

1. Home Cooked Meals.

This is one we all took for granted before going to school away from home. Now that we’re used to eating cereal and leftover pizza for every meal, there’s truly nothing better than coming home for break to a home cooked dinner of all of our favorite foods made by Mom.

2. Always having someone to hang out with.

No one likes spending quality time with us more than our moms, so when all of our friends were busy in high school, she was always there to hang out with when we got bored. Now that we’re away at school, the closest we can get to hanging out with our moms is a quick FaceTime conversation that usually fails thanks to the unreliable campus Wi-Fi.

3. Being Able to Find Everything.

All moms seem to have this super power where they just magically know where something is when we can’t find it. Now, when we misplace our keys or cell phones somewhere in our messy apartments we end up being late to class, even though they were probably right in front of you the whole time.

4. Being Taken Care of When Sick.

Late nights and hard classes make it nearly impossible for college students to avoid getting sick. It’s inevitable, and not having our moms there to take care of us when it happens might be the worst part about being sick in college. Being sick before leaving for college, however, meant a day off of school for watching movies in bed and having our moms bring us medicine and food to make you feel better. We miss that a lot.

5. Being comforted.

Sometimes all you need is a hug from Mom. Whether schoolwork is piling up and you failed your midterm, your boyfriend just dumped you or you’re in a fight with your roommates, we miss having our moms there to make everything better when we're on the verge a mental breakdown.

The thing we miss most about our moms, however, is just that: our moms. As much as we might have argued with them in high school (during those dreaded teen angst years), there's nothing college students miss more while we're away at school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
