5 College Fashion Trends Analyzed By a Fashion Major

College is the one time you can dress however you want and no one can judge you

The irony of sitting in a class talking about high fashion while dressed like a homeless person has been beyond a doubt one of the highlights of this semester. So instead of analyzing high fashion I've decided to analyze the fashion of "The College Girl". A look that can be easily mastered by pulling random clothes that don't match out of your drawers.

1. Birkenstocks

These are some of the ugliest shoes, and before college I refused to even think about buying a pair. Somehow I got sucked into the trend and was enlightened with why most every girl owned these. They're extremely comfortable and easy to slip on which makes for a grade A college closet necessity. We aren't looking for cute here; we want something that when we wake up we can just slip it on and walk out the door.

2. Large T-shirts/ Sweatshirts

If you are a girl and don't own an oversized shirt that your dad could probably fit into, then you're missing out. My shirts used to be fitted nicely until I got to college and found the easy nature that large t-shirts bring. You can sleep in them and then get up and just go to class. Again, it's a must have even if it does make you look like you have the figure of a nine year old boy, but it's fine.

3. Leggings/Nike Shorts

These are interchangeable depending on the weather. No one actually wears pants and if you do you're missing out on the glory of a elastic waistband. When that freshman fifteen hits trust me you'll be wanting that extra space that pants don't provide.

4. Scrunchies

This one has recently made a comeback and I can actually say I'm not mad about it. They come in a variety of colors and designs that can lift up your look a little bit with that extra pop of color that is almost effortless. Forget hair ties, why not add something fun to make it look like you at least tried a little bit.

5. The Gameday Look

Honestly there could be a whole article just on this. Gameday is the one day that people really do try and look their best. Ask me why we would want to look our best while scrunched up in stands packed with hundreds of people and I couldn't answer you. It's just what happens. This is when girls will bring out their dresses, cowboy boots, and blue jean skirts. Quite a change from what is originally seen around campus.

Once college is over we will all have to look professional, but for now let's enjoy looking like we just woke up.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
