It is time to move on. I know how devastating it is to read the last Harry Potter book and suddenly not know what to do next. After you have finished all seven Harry Potter books you feel a certain loyalty to them. You feel as if you will never read a series as awesome as Harry Potter ever again. But fear not! Once you have come out of your Harry Potter depression and you are ready to move on to a new series I have the books for you. Although, some of them may not measure up to the impeccable Harry Potter series they are still enjoyable reads for all HP fans. Here are five series and trilogies that can help you get over your Harry Potter slump.
1. The Mortal Instruments
The Mortal Instruments is a six-book series written by author Cassandra Clare about a girl named Clary Fray. Clary thinks she is a normal girl living in New York City until one day she is attacked, her mother goes missing and a guy named Jace rescues her. But Jace is no ordinary guy, he and his family are shadow hunters (man with blood of an angel) that protect the human world from demons. The series includes a plethora of creatures like werewolves, warlocks and vampires and of course, shadow hunters. The first book has been made into a movie and the show Shadowhunters on Freeform is based off this series.
2. The Infernal Devices
The Infernal Devices is a prequel trilogy to The Mortal Instruments series. The books take place in London, England, in 1878 and follow a girl named Tessa Gray. Tessa is an orphan teenage girl who is searching for her brother who has disappeared. During her search she discovers that she is not human and has the power to shape shift. With help from shadow hunters she searches for her brother and the truth of what she really is. Not to mention the love triangle she encounters on the way.
3. The Divergent Trilogy
The Divergent trilogy, written by Veronica Roth, takes place in a dystopian society located in Chicago. The society separates its citizens into five different factions: Candor, Dauntless, Abnegation, Amity and Erudite. The faction system was built to terminate individuality that could harm public safety. To uphold this system is to eliminate anyone who belongs to more than faction or Divergents. The trilogy follows Beatrice Prior who was born Abnegation but transfers to Dauntless. Beatrice or Tris, must figure out how to navigate life as a Dauntless and a Divergent. All three books of the Divergent trilogy have been made into movies.
4. The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner is a science-fiction trilogy written by James Dashner that takes place in an dystopian society. The story follows a boy named Thomas who wakes up inside a metal box in the middle of a maze called the Glade. The Glade is home to many boys that have all been brought there through the metal box. After Thomas’ arrival thins in the Glade begin to change. Grievers are let into the Glade and take one boy each night. This forces the Thomas and the remaining boys to venture into the maze to find a way out and where they came from. The first and second book of the Maze Runner trilogy has been made into films.
5. Legend Trilogy
The Legend trilogy, written by Marie Lu, is set in The Republic, a country created after the fall of the United States. The Republic holds trials every year to separate people into the army or the work force. June Iparis holds the highest score that has ever been recorded in the trails. A 15-year-old criminal named Day, who is in search of a cure for a plague that has overcome his family, has killed June’s brother. June poses as a girl from the slums to search for Day and avenge her brother. In an interesting turn of events Day and June must work together to fight for the greater good.
