5 Blessings You Haven't Thought About

The Lord has lavished so much on us just out of sheer love.

5 Blessings You Haven't Thought About
Corrine Weiss

Recently I have been pondering all of these random blessings that we have and how much we overlook the gift of them. The Lord built us this beautiful planet and there are so many things that he provides that are necessary for survival, but have we thought of the ones that aren’t necessarily needed to survive but were just given out of sheer love?

Here are just five random blessings we receive but haven’t really thought about:

1. Color

Picture a world in black and white. It would still be beautiful; we would still survive. But just for our pleasure, the Lord exploded over 10 million colors into existence. We can gaze at the cerulean sky, lush jade hills, lilac petals… We see all of these colors every day but do we ever stop to consider what an overwhelmingly precious gift they are?

2. Our Senses

This is another one that blows my mind. The fact that we can hear distinct voices and laughter, and music. We can look at the beautiful colors from before. We are able to smell spices, fragrances, and foods. We taste the different flavors in coffee. The feeling on our skin of another’s touch. Now, some of our senses are necessary for survival, but there are so many that are there I believe just for our pleasure, for God’s glory.

3. The Nighttime

Have you ever thought what it would be like to live in a place where it was constantly daytime? The sun always shone, it was always bright. We would never experience the moon or the stars. The night brings about a whole new perspective, a whole new adventure. We also would never be able to gawk over sunrises and sunsets. What a beautiful gift that the sun goes away for awhile.

4. Rejection

This one stings. It is so awful in the moment. But try to imagine a world where we got everything we wanted. We would never appreciate the things we have. When someone or something rejects us, it makes the one who accepts us that more amazing. We wouldn’t have that WOOHOO feeling of being fully accepted, fully wanted, and fully enough if we weren’t for someone or something else at one point.

5. The Unknown

Try to grasp what it would be like to know every single thing that was going to happen next. There would be no surprises. You knew what the next day held, the next month, the next year. You knew exactly how your life would play out and how you would die. How boring! The unknown, at times, can be such a scary place. For my fellow control freaks out there, knowing everything that is coming up seems like a wonderful dream. But there is such a gift in the fact that we don’t know what’s coming. If we saw all the pain coming, we would lock ourselves in our closets and never leave. If we saw all the joy coming, we wouldn’t be able to be content with where we are now and would try to run ahead. There is such a beautiful element in the fact that the Lord knows everything to come, and we just play along to wait and see what He has.

So there are just five of the countless amount of simple things the Lord’s gives us that weren’t necessary, but just completely out of His goodness and love towards us. I encourage you to spend your days looking for more of these examples, you will be shocked!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
