My mom has said a lot of awesome things that I'll always remember, but there are a few words that stand out to me. Here they are!
1. If you compare yourself to others all the time, you're going to be miserable.
Growing up, I wanted to be pretty and fun. I always tried to be like girls that I thought were those things. I found out that is totally lame and I should just have fun and enjoy being myself. I realized that everyone has insecurities, and I shouldn't envy others when I was cool, too.
2. If a boy's mean to you once, he will be mean to you, again.
This is honestly so true. Any boy that I have brought home and my mom didn't like, we never ended up working out. My mom can read people's character like a book. She always knows if someone is genuine or not.
3. Be the friend that only says nice things about their friends.
It can be so easy to say something mean if we are mad or annoyed with a friend, but being a good friend is about not saying these things- even when you're upset. Mom taught me that to have a friend, you have to be a friend.
4. Your career will never wake up and leave you.
My mom is supportive of me being in love one day, but she has always encouraged me to be independent, no matter what. She taught me that I should have a career for me, and my school work should come first.
5. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
This sounds so simple but it is such a hard thing to do. Being nice to people that make me mad has never been easy. It's something I struggle with on the daily. I try to show kindness even when I don't want to and hold my tongue especially when I don't want to.
Sometimes when our moms talk to us we feel like they are nagging. In reality, they are giving us awesome advice. Thank you Mom for all your awesome advice, you rock!
