College is full of great times with amazing friends but let's be real: going home is one of the best feelings ever. There's so much that we forget about when we are at college that we become even more thankful for once we get home. We get so excited to have "freedom" from our hometown and family that we don't realize what we are leaving behind. Here are some of the things I have realized I miss while away at college and took advantage of while I was still living back at home.
1. Home cooked food
When I was a kid I used to love eating pizza and ramen. It was fun to eat fast food and other junk all the time, however, now that I'm in college I have realized it's not that great. Coming back home to cooked meals makes me feel like I don't know how to take care of myself when I'm at college. The stuff I eat at college doesn't give me the same nutrition I get at home. I love you Pizza Hut, but home cooked pot roast is way better.
2. The medicine cabinet
When I get sick at home, there's everything I need right in the medicine cabinet. Whether I just have a headache or I have the stomach flu, I have what's needed to make me feel better again. This is something I miss while away at college, where I struggle to find a single cough drop or Tylenol.
3. Showering without sandals
The biggest struggle of on-campus living is showering with sandals on. Yeah, I don't want to get a weird foot fungus or something, but it's such a hassle to shower with sandals on. It's annoying and makes me feel like I'm showering in the local pool's shower. Being home means I can shower without shoes, which feels weird because there's no padding under my feet, but it also amazing.
4. Taking baths
Everyone loves a good bubble bath, especially when its cold and snowy outside. Being away at school means I don't have the opportunity to play Netflix while I relax in a bubble bath. There is a bathtub, but let's be real, that's a little sketchy. One of the first things I do when I go back home is sit back, relax, and enjoy the bubbles!
5. Cuddling pets
Animals are one of the best things on this planet. Coming home means I get to cuddle my dog non-stop for a few days. Being in a dorm room without pets feels cold and lonely. I have a fish, but it isn't the same because I can't take it out of the tank and hold it (I have been known to try and pet my fish). Dog cuddles are the best, and I wish I could have then during midterms and finals week.
Be thankful for what you have while at home, because once it's gone it's hard to make up for it.
