“Scream Queens,” the new horror-comedy written by “American Horror Story” creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, premiered Tuesday night on Fox. Below I’ve listed the five most killer moments of the two-hour premiere:
1. Emma Roberts' opening sequence
In the opening sequence you realize that Emma Roberts, adorned with '80s chic pastels and a Gatsby-sized walk-in closet, has reprised her role of Madison from “American Horror Story: Coven” under a different pseudonym: Chanel #1. And this time, she is the queen of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority. The only thing that’s better than having Emma Roberts playing a mean girl is Emma Roberts playing a mean girl spearheading a sorority.
2. Ariana Grande's death scene
Grande goes quietly into the good night. She does not scream; she texts her killer. Not only was Chanel #5’s demise hilarious, the writers tried to illustrate that our generation would rather live-tweet updates of our escape from a serial killer than to actually focus on our primal instinct of survival. Watch once for the statement, but watch 10 times for the hilarity.
3. "Deaf Taylor Swift"
Being a die-hard Taylor Swift fan, I’ll take Taylor Swift wherever I can get her. This extra Taylor was ironic and just downright funny.
4. Two Words: Keke Palmer
Amid the hit-or-miss repeated racist jabs that were at times just awkward and uncomfortable, Keke Palmer’s character provided sassiness that I didn’t know I needed. It made me realize how much I’ve missed Palmer. Why did she disappear after “True Jackson VP”?
5. A Gay Nick Jonas
Sorry, ladies. You lost another hottie to the men… Well, sort of. If you could overlook the gay shaming of Jonas’s character, the hilarious gay banter between Jonas and the other male lead (while holding his stuffed frog) was pure gold.
