Since I was 28 days old, my grandmother took me into her arms and raised me as her own child. I have learned from her and from my grandfather a myriad of interesting facts, as well as important life lessons. Thus, I present some of the reasons why living with our grandparents is the best.

You can see them every day.

Every day after school, I greet them and tell them how my day has been. They proceed by giving me advice on how to tackle certain personal problems. In addition, I go and visit them whenever I want and they are more than happy to see me. I am not only happy to see them, but my grandparents are the one that appreciates it the most.

Will comfort you every time.

Whenever you feel that no one understands you, you may always find comfort, understanding and reason in the arms of your grandparents. They will ease your discomfort and give you advice that will be valuable throughout your life.

They are the doors to the past.

My grandparents are not the techiest kind of grandparents, but they make it up with a library of 25,000 books. They spend most of the time reminiscing the past, and my sister and I learn very quickly and easily with them because they intertwine the historical backdrop with that of their own experiences. It is very interesting to talk with someone who lived during World War II or the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Help you with anything you set your mind to.

Every time I need help, the ones that are always there for me are my grandparents. Even if they may not understand what they are going to help you with, they try to learn and excel in their aid. Their help ranges from school projects to life advice, and, since you will not have them forever, it is important to cherish it today.

Their presence.

Just by knowing that you are living with them, brings you inner peace and happiness. The feeling is hard to describe, but the fact that they’ll always care and look after you in every problem you encounter every day of your life is very comforting. I feel prepared for the real world because I am confident that my grandparents raised me as best as they possibly could.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
